No it's "not hard to understand" as you always say Rinaldo. You're talking out both side of your mouth as usual. - Flyerz74
Who is Rinaldo dude? I am not him... lol |

There is no high end talent in this draft, at least no obvious high end talent. Resigning RP and extending NS had absolutely nothing to do with the Flyers draft position this year. - jd250
No offense but you’re not smart. There’s tons of high end talent in this draft. There always is. Trick is knowing who has it. |

Not just WJC. They sent LeClair and Sharp to watch a BC game and then talk iirc?

The team is in the worst position an NHL team can be in. A playoff bubble team, not making the playoffs. Not close to being good enough to contend and too good to get a high level draft pick unless they get lucky in the lottery. They should've been fully committed to the rebuild and playing young players and let the chips fall where they may. They weren't. - MJL
Been saying this since 2014 |

He wouldn't be able to. Because there is'n't any such direct refutation or anything remotely similar.
Don't you understand? The entire objective is to keep on arguing. Just like the Flyers: it is to keep on saying we are rebuilding/doing what it takes/cap team etc. etc. - PT21
It's in the same Athletic article you quoted from with LeBrun. LOL
You conveniently left out the part where Briere said that they couldn't get an answer to either question they wanted asked. You're being disingenuous. You have every opportunity to prove me incorrect. You don't follow that path though. Instead, you make some absurd attempt to state that only some are allowed to offer their opinion in the conversation. Just as you tried to do on the other thread.

Some of the great folks on this board watch minor league hockey a lot and know these players about to be drafted in a couple of months. I try to read up on them but I only have that and what I hear in the Hot Stove and Prospects talk on NHL radio. However what are everyone’s thoughts on two that seem to be possibilities:
Tij Iginla with the first pick and
Dean Letourneau with the Panthers pick?
Saturday they were talking about the second player as a 6’6” center who could become a heck of a player. Any thoughts? |

Unpopular? To who? The idiot fans that accept mediocre team? I welcome changes - Stayin alive
Oh I am all for moving Konecny and Laughton. Actually think it is a must if they want to rebuild this right. There is no need for another long term, big cap deal for a rebuilding team.
But I do see fans who like him. So might be unpopular but it would be the right move. I would love to get one of Buffalo or Ottawa to bite. Maybe where the Flyers are in the draft right now, it might make it easier to move up to Ottawa or buffalo pick.

Precisely.
Look, there is no doubt the kid has some growing up to do. The Torts video after he was drafted was stupid. The liking of the Avery video was stupid. The tears comments before the final game was stupid.
But all of that was extemporaneous off the cuff stupidity. It doesn't translate into a sustained business decision. The guy was being counseled by an agency that represents dozens of NHL players (including Farabee). And they are not going to tell him that a drastic decision like this based on a single year ELC byt itself isn't stupid?

That's called cutting your nose to spite your face. As word gets out, good luck recouping value for a star player who you have to trade. Good luck with the constant barrage of publicity about the situation. And if no trade, good luck with that 2nd. - PT21
Yeah because a top 5 pick is gonna stay in school for 4 years and risk injury and forego 2 years of millions of dollars they can never recoup.
Because an agent is gonna let that happen.
Please tell me why you think either it would be logical or why cg would do that? Or why his agent would allow that or advise that?
It’s not a matter of trade value. And even if it gets to trade scenario why would he settle for poop deal? If he’s good wouldn’t there always maybe be a bidding war knowing he’s available? |
|
|
|
That's not correct. There is no rule in the CBA or the NHL bylaws that says that an NHL team has no right to talk directly to a player they hold the draft rights to. Ordinarily, you would go through the agent but with the agent being unwilling to talk to the Flyers after Gauthier told them he wouldn't sign. They had every right to seek direct contact. They aren't proxies. They're representatives of the team. - MJL
The CBA and NHL bylaws aren’t important here. It’s the agent forcing them to adhere to honor the client/agent relationship.
Semantics. LeClair and Sharp are middlemen and in spirit proxies.
They didn’t honor the client/agent construct. It’s not illegal. But it’s highly irregular, unprofessional and insulting. The agent/client response to that breach resulted in them basically telling the Flyers GFY.

I disagree. Not when the agent is refusing to speak with the team. That is unprofessional and the Flyers had every right to try and talk to the player, who they owned exclusive negotiation rights to. It was Briere and Jones that went to Sweden to try and talk to Gauthier.

The risk of injury is a non-factor. if that was so dire a possibility, players would just stop playing in college after they are drafted.
The millions foregone .. Dude, look up how much Ben Simmons lost by holding out. It happens all the effing time. They incur the immediate cost for the future payoffs.

Anyone that wants tk signed for what we all know he’s gonna get term/salary is a moron. No nice way to say it. And if team was smart they’d 100% disregard any input from those folks and do the right thing
But they won’t

Just looked it up (had completely forgotten).
Duchene asked for a trade around xmas 2016
Was traded Nov 5, 2017.
In other words, less than a year later. Long before his contract was expiring.
I fail to see what this example offers.

Soccer players are the biggest pu$$ies to ever walk the face of the earth! Every time they get touched they go down like they got shot by a 12 gauge shotgun! They are ALMOST bigger sissies than Embiid!! They aren't that soft yet though. Thanks! Eh what? |

Not true at all. Teams have proxies that meet with players all the time. Is is a problem of things are fine? No? Then why now? You can’t have it both ways. If anything it’s more insulting if team isn’t in steady contact with players directly.
And no agent is gonna have a gfy attitude with a team. That would flat out stupid. Agents don’t do that. That would be horrible for business.
Why logically would they do that for cg. |

There is no link. Because Friedman said nothing of the sort.
1. Originally says "Both him and his representatives refused to meet or talk with the Flyers"
2. Multiple people and online sources point out that they in fact did talk.
3. Now suddenly fixates on a meeting in Sweden (how does it matter if they met in Sweden or Timbuctoo or over video as long as they communicated?).
4. Switches to making a claim someone said they didn't meet.
5. Challenged for a link. Points out an article that says nothing remotely of the sort.
6. Will continue arguing till bedtime.
7. Tomorrow is a brand new day. More of the same.
8. Yippee.

The risk of injury is non factor? What. They’d stop playing? Is that a joke? That’s gotta be the worst excuse I’ve ever heard. How many players get drafted and go straight to nhl? They HAVE to play. They have no choice.
And please don’t compare nba or other sports contracts with nhl. Deal with what the player in nhl deals with in reality. They have to play out elc by cba before having ANY leverage at all.
That’s why all the top picks want that elc started as fast as possible with as little risk taken as possible.
Again show why cg would risk any of that to stay in college 4 years.
Makes no sense. Your examples are horrible. Please try again because I’d love to hear any logical reason any top player would do that.
The only reason I can think of is because a player is crazy enough to say (frank) it idc if I ever get paid.
And haven’t seen one player yet do that. Recently anyways. They all sign as fast as possible

Dude, when you have professional contractual representation, you meet only via that representation.
Plaintiffs don't show up in the patio of defendants or vice versa and bypass each other's counsel.
Flyers are lucky that CG did not place a restraining order on them, especially if he made it clear that they should talk to his agent (technically an 'advisor', since he was in college) rather than him

What I meant is, any player drafted that high who delays that first pro contract is risking millions. That player could just choose not to go to college and sign that ELC right away.
Remember JVR and how everyone was impatient how long he would stay in college? Homer even said he is not going to interfere with a personal decision of how long he would stay in college.
Well, wasn't JVR "risking millions" by delaying that ELC?
