You can check this day off. - MJL How bout you TAKE A DAY OFF? Oh, that's right...you'd go into withdrawal of epic proportions!! Although I'll admit that it's quite comical how you always stick up for your little brother. Good job bruh! |

Well yea, that's basically what happened. The Flyers (frank)ed up by not signing him in March of 23 - MJL
Oh please .. again .. players don't dictate terms to teams, especially college players that have never even played a professional game. The Flyers did nothing wrong here. Quitter can have fun playing wing in Anaheim. |

They did, because now the team with the league's 27th best offense have an injured Drysdale and a 2025 2nd round pick instead of the highly skilled young forward they desperately need. - Feanor
Was db correct that cg wasn’t fully ready for nhl? Yes. He’s an immature spoiled (frank). Definitely should’ve been sent back to grow a little.
He wasn’t wrong for that. He was wrong for caving and knee jerk trading him. Totally different arguement |

next time you take a shower, remember to take a toaster in with you - THE BLACK HAND Will do! Although since I actually have a functioning brain (unlike you) I won't have it plugged in. Don't you get tired of being totally battered by me on here? I mean, having a battle of the wits with you is like shooting dead fish in a barrel.

You're obviously wrong. Gauthier dictated to the Flyers that he wasn't going to play there and he got his wish. The Flyers screwed up big time.

I disagree. Not when the agent is refusing to speak with the team. That is unprofessional and the Flyers had every right to try and talk to the player, who they owned exclusive negotiation rights to. It was Briere and Jones that went to Sweden to try and talk to Gauthier. - MJL
Ok..they did that knowing full well the player had no interest in speaking to them and deferred conversations to the agent. Them being plssed about a forgone conculsion almost feels like a spin..
"see how bad Gauthier is...he won't talk to us even though we travelled half around the world to speak to him.".
They knew he wouldn't before they left their houses. Don't give me that respect BS...they disrespected their top prospect months earlier. Yes they owned his RIGHTS, but that does not give them control of the player they refused to sign. They have every right to try and talk to the agent or the player, just as the agent and the player have every right to decline to talk to them. Gauthier owed them nothing. Zippo. They drafted him, sure, but he would have been drafted anyways, so it is not like hey reached and gave him a shot that noone else would have.
Fans bought it hook, line and sinker...they knew the fuqed up, and had made a major mistake by pushing off the signing of a top prospect NHL wide. They knew the fans would be plssed, so they spin it into Gauthier is this, Gauthier is that. Won't talk, wah, wah, wah. Don't want to be a Flyer...you won't be....dangerous words....what if MM says he wants out before he is even in? What about this years picks? TK?
Being outside of Philly, and watching this gong show from 3900 km away, maybe I see things a bit different, but if you sit back and look at the whole events that night he was traded, and listen to what they said...it was all preorchestrated to make the fan base believe in the crap they were spewing.

In my opinion, Gauthier and his agent disrespected the Flyers by not being willing to talk to them once he told them he didn't want to play for them. The Flyers felt that there was a misunderstanding involved and wanted to clear the air. The Flyers didn't perpetually refuse to sign Gauthier. They just declined to sign him in March of 23. They wanted to sign him for the 23/24 season. The Flyers controlled his NHL rights. Gauthier can choose to not sign, go back to college, go play in Europe etc. He had a right to not want to play for the Flyers.

I agree that the Flyers screwed up but I don't like the way that Gauthier handled it. Again, well within his rights.

Well of course the response in the media was going to be coordinated. What major organization wouldn't do that with the message? The Flyers are an archaic, old school organization who still believes in a ton of old school crap.

But they did refuse to sign him when he had finished up his college year. Rumors of Fletcher promises and a burnt year off his contract, which Briere didn't do. Who disrespected who first?
I just mean the way the Flyers almost attacked Gauthier that night...I didn't think at the time it was a very good look.
I am not plssed with the player for wanting out. The team was a mess...they had their chance to sign him, and decided not to...over bonus moneys. Name me 1 top 5 overall pick in the NHL that the player says I want to sign and the team says, no.
I am plssed with team for causing this. Money should not have been the reason. If he wasn't ready, fine, but he proved in the World Championships in the following months where he scored 8 times playing against other NHLers that he was ready for a rookie role in the NHL. The team blew it, and we lost an elite prospect because of it. They brought that on themselves. I don't trust this management team. Briere has confessed to lying multiple times to the fans, yet he expects to be trusted on everything he says until he admits to lying again.
Why didn't they sign him to a contract in March that kicked in for the following season if they were planning on doing that in June? That does happen frequently in the NHL. |

Seriously? How about the tantrum of not talking to the team that drafted you because you didn’t get your way. How about how he’s getting absolutely roasted right now for comments during championship game. He’s clearly an entitled (frank) that needs to mature. And I’m not saying he won’t but god only knows the other mental poop over last year. Not to mention he’s only 19 and there’s other things with young people learning to be a pro level player. |

I don't feel that not signing him in March of 23 was disrespectful to the player. If so, then is every decision made by a team on a player that may not be what the player wants, disrespectful?
I agree that the team caused the issue.

Oh, this reeked of covering up a bad situation of their own doing from the beginning. Hell, I've seen junior high students handle a break-up better than the garbage the Flyers put forth, yet somehow this gullible fan base not only bought it, but echoed the sentiment. |

Earlier someone said the Flyers didn’t read the room. That is dead on. When the Flyers decided not to sign him right way they should have picked up on his reaction and made an effort to manage that and work through it with him.
I’m sure a lot of those who read here have more experience than me and could teach me things about people and business.
The first time I managed people, I saw everyone as an ally or enemy. Over time that was not working. Later I got to a place where I evaluated motives. If someone was ambitious or greedy or whatever then use that so that it aligns with your agenda.
The fact that they were caught flat footed when hw wouldn’t sign, seems to say they said no and then went to sleep.

I can't speak to what reaction Gauthier had. What he expressed to them, if anything. I do know that the Flyers felt there was a misunderstanding. Regardless, the Flyers made a huge mistake in not signing him in 3/23

Because a lot of people here look upon hockey less as a commercial spectacle and more of a way of life. An embodiment of a past that was always a myth. And they got a ready made villain: a brash upstart kid who dares diss the code!
And Comcast, fully aware, chortles, nurtures, feeds, and goes ka-ching.
In a way it is interesting and poignant. |
