It’s pretty Fletcheresque to give up a 1st for someone who doesn’t move the needle. - Minnyhock
A late first for someone who can be a versatile role player, kill penalties and good locker room guy.
Laughton is not a bad player. He just isn't want the Flyers need at this time. But for a playoff team/cup contender. He would be a good asset.

Hopefully the Flyers have learned their lesson here on how to handle a top prospect. I doubt it though. - MJL
It's pretty simple.
Not all prospects get the same treatment. Everyone will be treated with respect but not everyone is treated the same.

Another disappointing season, despite some promising times. Right now everybody is bashing Torts, especially the usual suspect(s). I will try to find some positive points from this season. Torts may not be the guy the Flyers need in the future, but for the first time in years the Flyers didn't sleep walk through the 1st period. They actually bought in and played with structure, they didn't stand around and puck watch as much as before, they played better positionally and they were able to finally get the puck through the neutral zone. Hakstol, Gordon, AV and Yeo couldn't break the Flyers out of those bad habits, but Torts did for the most part. The Flyers needed a disciplinarian as a coach and this time it was Torts. I highly doubt that Torts will be around after next season and who knows what changes this off season brings? Obviously, something has to be done with the PP. I'm still amazed the Flyers won as many games as they did with the worlds worst PP. Let's see what moves Briere has up his sleeve this summer?
That's the end of my rant. It's now baseball time! |

laughton can get a 1st and he makes 3 million for the next 2 years. he is a player many team want.
flyers as usual never sell high though. - hello it's me 2050
Laughton is a 3rd line forward. This was his first complete season since 2018, which means he gets injured a lot.
His point production went down compared to last season, 4 points, not much but still a drop.
The major concern is his PIM, went up to a career high 69 minutes. To me, a lot of them I would consider lazy penalties.
He is also turning 30. Flyers would maybe get a low 2nd or a 3rd round pick for him.

Didn't someone on this board call it another black mark for the Flyers because Rizzo was going to sign here?

Both Hakstol and Vigneault coached the Flyers to significantly better seasons than this season. I've never seen a fan base overrate a season where the team was 6 games below .500 more. Where as was posted previously, the team was ranked 27th in the league in goals. Ranked 19th defensively and the worst PP in the league 3 seasons running. This team is below mediocre.

Did you notice Frost when he was playing? I sure as hell didn't. In fact, I barely noticed him at all down the stretch in general. He is a soft player that simply doesn't have the competitive fire and you can't teach that. I did see him smiling on the bench last night though, so I guess he was having a good time. I hear he is a helleva guy though.
 - Phillywhiteout
i do not disagree with you statement that he was not noticeable but tell me who really was noticeable. They were all blah... |

Prospect, veteran, it doesn't matter. It's only about leverage. When a player has leverage that creates an opportunity to make demands.
That's why virtually all top NCAA players get to burn that year off, why they go straight into the lineup without earning anything. The threat of going Adam Fox is always in their back pocket. It's nothing new, it's been happening for decades.
Does Fedotov come over if he's not promised a spot in the lineup right away, burning the tolled year off his contract?
You can bet Michkov will look for guarantees before he crosses over as well.
Cutter had leverage and the Flyers tried to call his bluff but then he painted them into a corner. Real amateur hour stuff. - Tomahawk
Cg had ZERO leverage and Philly didn’t call his bluff. Calling his bluff would’ve meant telling him they aren’t moving him and enjoy 4 years in college risking injury and making no money.
Top prospects want elc signed and first year burned as fast as possible. Cg wanted to be signed. Told to do 1 more year of college. He was pissed. He’s immature (as expected) philly puffed their chest and made a rash stupid decision. They got Pennie’s on the dollar in trade. And don’t be fooled by the narrative Philly pushed. There was no threat if it came out what cg would’ve had to deal with the big bad flyers fans. They are nothing. They would’ve been standing cheering like crazy the first time cg put a puck in the net. |

Agreed. Even better is watching him field his position. Should already be a GG winner if it weren't for that ridiculously arbitrary innings requirement. |

He played 4 more games than last season. So more chance to get more points.
He played 67 games to years ago and got 30 points. Only 9 less than this year.
He is just returning to what he is, an average 3rd line forward that every team has.

I do think Laughton has value in the market. I know Bill has mentioned the Flyers could have interest in acquiring a young, center reclamation project. Peyton Krebs has been mentioned many times. Not necessarily, Flyers are going to trade Laughton for a center, but I do expect Briere to get more young center depth in the organization. Even Briere knows a team is not a serious contender when in a "must win" game, Poehling is the center with the most minutes (not a shot at him). Offseason objective- increase organizational young center depth. Step 1- Rizzo signed. Let's see what happens next. |

Yes, they took a step forward as a team. You are just blind to it because you would rather talk about 3 on 3 and skill competition losses. Young players developed, leaders emerged, the team as a whole was much more competitive. All good steps. In the end, the step that will matter the most is getting more high end talent into the Flyers top 6. - jd250
Given a few more points would have gotten them into the playoffs, they should put more attention on how they approach 3 on 3 play in OT. |

It’s public knowledge cg wanted and expected to be signed to his elc after first year college. Db balked (rightfully so) and had him return to college for another year.
Cg threw a hissy fit and played games.
He had no problem playing for torts - Stayin alive
Did CG tell you this personally? Maybe that’s the case and maybe not. If CG wanted to sign but could not get a guarantee he wouldn’t be sent down to the Phantoms then that’s on him. I think there
Is more to it. |
