Some individuals did progress but overall the team didn’t.

Big summer ahead

Injuries, again, a big problem.

But yes, I think this will be a summer of lot of changes, more than people expect.

oh come on, you can't tell me there aren't any improvements on how they were playing last year, that's silly.

They did not blown out as much.

They did not have multiple long losing streaks.

There were some team structure improvements, especially the PP when Slaf joined and Newhook came back.

Lots of work to still do, but we expected that... including improvements from the coaching staff, too.

bah, a lot of people think they didn't progress as a team, to each his own, but I find that assessment is incorrect.

consistency is still an issue for sure, and there's lots to still be improved, but when they're on their game the habs are better than last year as a team. my 2 cents.

yup, so basically all team improvements.

I agree on the coaching part, work needs to be done, I'm curious to see if management will try to add experience to the staff or if they'll trust the learning curve they're on, which is also a possibility.

No injuries and a new pp coach would be a good start for next year..

wouldn't mind some coaching changes for the PP, but they've been improving on that a bit too, just like the PK, so we'll see.

consistency is always an issue for young teams, no problem, time will fix that.
I think they did progress on the PP and PK, especially after xmas,
but,
their defensive play at 5 on 5... aie aie aie. they did not progress. not one bit. the issue with the 2nd periods proves it by 1000.

some said Hutson was cought out of position on the first goal in Detroit. that's totally wrong. he was not out of position, he was playing man to man, following his player (Kane) who was all the way up at the blue line. not Hutson's fault at all. but we've talked about that before yes.

bah, they haven't been consistently horrible 5 on 5 either. I think inexperience is a bigger culprit concerning the issues they're having while you seem to think a change in their system would basically solve everything, we're not gonna agree on this ever lol

you expect Matheson and Savard to get better as they gain more experience? because they get stock in their zone just as often as the kids.
that proves that it is not related to the experience (or lack of) of the kids.

If we can improve on that then we'll be looking at a lot more points in the standings at the end of the season.

How many games did we lose by 1 goal (or in overtime) this season? ... add to this a potent 2nd line and we're not far off from the playoffs IMO.

Injuries, too.

I think 5v5, we had a number of under-performing players this year... Anderson leads the list, Gallagher for the most part, Armia before he came back... RHP was mostly invisible (when not injured), Pearson and YoLo were pretty much non-factors,

And Pez is just Pez.

Plus you had Jake Evans as your #2 center for a good chunk of the season. I like Evans, but that was not a good fit for him.

Would be nice to have a healthy top 9 going to see what type of 5v5 play they could sustain.

which is why I was saying yesterday that battling for a playoff spot next year might not be such a crazy thing to hope for

Not sure they make it next year, but I think they will be in it til close to the end, assuming they are not hit with massive injuries again.

not impossible.
to me it depends on 2 things:
1- will Hughes find 1 or 2 top6 forwards
2- will they stop playing man to man
