Can't say that was quite how I expected that one to go.
- BINGO!

It was exactly how most of us expected it to end. They've done this all season over and over and over and....

Gotta wonder if Roy turns to Sorokin for game three.
Obviously Varly was the least of their problems tonight, but he wasn't spectacular either. Perhaps they turn to Sorokin as a Hail Mary....

I mean when you only muster 11 shot ATTEMPTS over two full periods I'm not sure switching goalies does anything other than hurt the guy who isn't at fault anyway.

I’m not giving up hope quite yet. They will turn it around and win the next 4!

Does this count as being embarrassed?

They have lost some tough games this year but that was a next level kick in the Richard

My original prediction of Isles in 6 is being changed to Canes in 4. I see no way the Isles winning in Carolina, let alone four straight to needed to win at game 6 at UBS.

I think you may see Sorokin next game, even though it Varly has played extremely well. It is the only real change Roy can make.

You're never in trouble until you lose at home.
The only positive from this, is that they've played this weird rope-a-dope style and it seems to work against the Canes. There are long stretches where the Canes get nothing done.

Lets see what happens at home.

They should have won game 1 as the canes didn't show up and last night the blew a 3 goal lead but tbh that's what I thought the canes were going to look like against the isles just not that good assuming we lose this series and I don't see them winning it after what we all just witnessed I think it's time to move on from a lot of this roster, well those thay don't have max term deals

I just don’t understand how a player, like Roy, who was fiery, rough, dirty and had no fùcks to give has this team playing like a bunch of pûssies who can’t finish checks or forecheck.

Heads need to roll after this. If I was an owner watching my team retreat after going up 3-0 in a playoff game and then lose it (a-fúcking-gain), I’d be on the phone searching for new staff and roster members immediately. The coaches had 40 minutes plus an intermission and a timeout to tell them to stop playing like a bunch of scared 7 year olds at Christopher Morley Park

Roy is much more reserved then he has been in the past. I believe it has more to do with him maturing in the role and his past experience with Sakic then not caring.

Roy was a fiery psycho with Colorado. He said he learned a lot and was going to change his ways. He seems to be a better overall coach with NYI this time around compared to COL. I'm impressed how he has improved the team system to control the pace of the game much better. In Colorado his teams never had the puck and he expected the goalie to steal games like he did in his prime. Obviously the last game wasn't a good indication of this, but overall he has improved NYI a lot since taking over. Reality is probably NYI aren't a great team and Carolina is a top contender with arguably the deepest roster in the league. That's not Roy's fault.

I don't think such a change has to be considered an endorsement of the rest of the team's play.
Specifically focusing on Varlarmov:
Varly has been sensational over the last 10 games or so. I don't think he was particularly great last night. Despite Carolina dominating last night's game and amassing 38 shots, a lot of those saves were a combo of bad angles and pucks trickling in after partial blocks. I think at least two of the goals, if not three were not particularly great goals for Varly to give up.
The fact is he's 35 and I'm not so sure his performance trajectory over the grind of a series will point up. This would be a fine time to see if Sorokin can get back to carrying this team

There were a few players who really have looked bad.
Dobson has been awful so far this series and may still be nursing an injury. He has totally been exposed, especially on the winning goal.
Pelech just flat out sucks at this point. Some of this is likely a lack of proper support from the forwards, but he looks totally lost and made a key mental error that contributed to the tying goal.
Clutterbuck and Martin are done and really serve no useful purpose on this team. Clutter was getting thrown around like a rag doll. Martin squander scoring chances while doing little else.
There are obviously plenty of other issues, but those four were really bad last night. I also think last night should have been the end of the Zeeker combo with BarHor. Maybe let McLean give it a shot

Yup they just don't have the speed or talent to play with the canes right now. I'm not sure what they can do to win if the canes play like that again tbh

They played with them well enough until they tried to sit on a 3-0 lead for 35 minutes.

They have four goals in two games. They had 5 shots in the last two periods, including only one in the 3rd. They don't have a shot in hell of winning 4 out of the next 5 games.

The team has been wildly inconsistent across two coaches this season, which means the main problem really isn't coaching. Lambert was bad and was correctly let go, but at this point it's pretty obvious who the blame falls on.

I had/have absolutely zero expectation of winning this series, but I would have rather lost 10-0 last night than the way they did.

Which they've repeatedly done all year.
I do think the Isles are capable of playing a much tighter game with Carolina than last night, which isn't saying much.
Unfortunately as we've seen all year long, when they hit a rut, it becomes a complete meltdown in every part of their game.

I don't think Lou has been great, BUT I have no idea what ownership wants from him either. I'm certain plenty of GMs recognize a team needs to rebuild badly but aren't allowed to as ownership objectives dictate what a GM does far more than what fans want to admit in most cases. I can understand why that loss is more painful, but realistically Carolina dominated play in that game as many have stated. Easily could have been a massive blowout. Metro only has three quality teams this season and NYI, WSH, PHI, PIT are truthfully mediocre at best and all should rebuild (PHI is) if they are optimizing to contend again. But again, GMs can't rebuild until ownership approves that action and usually it isn't cost effective to ownership to rebuild until it is too late.

I agree but this team is fragile. They go into turtle mode way to quick. That and a lack of talent, some players that are a bit to comfortable, are the main issues imo. Our defense is a shell of what it once was. If it was just this series you can Chalk it up to a one off but this has been an issue for going on three seasons. Eventually you have to start looking at the personnel.

Let’s not fool ourselves the last thing Lou wants to do is rebuild. That’s not what he does.
