Maybe it's just copium, but the fact that Ruff has survived, and thrived, for so long, especially through a major generational change in how players expect to be treated by coaches bodes well for, at least short term, success here again.

I think last time it was just time, he had been here for 15 years, after all. I don't think he was a bad coach all of a sudden, and the fact he's still in the league 11 years later or whatever is testament to that.

54 starts is pretty telling for this season as is 11th in wins, 9th in gaa

He had a good year. Just looking at the comps. The fact that's it's only a year is an issue.

Because he hasn't put together a complete season yet. He was slow out of the gate this season, then played well since January.
It's a show me deal, show me you can do it and actively contribute for the complete season.

Over 4 seasons (281 games) coaching the NJD, he has a 3-6 record against the Leafs. 25 goals scored for and 37 goals against.

Who is your comp right now? A little Gustavsson, a little Skinner. Georgiev is in the middle. That seems reasonable to me.

With another good year, I still wouldn't put him in the 4m group. Maybe some inflation pushes it there.
