Useless player. Leaf fans actually make fun of the dude because he’s so bad and are mad at how much of a waste he is - Sabretooth9

I was thinking on that. Based on the massive overhaul at forward, it doesn't leave much left for the defense, which I assume is very safe.
This is a tough spot. Do you trade Ryan Johnson for a Will Borgen? He's the closest NHLer of them all and he's cheap, which is becoming clear they will need in the next two years. Maybe Jeremy Lauzon. - TheSabresTaco
I don't get the Joker for Boucher trade.
Joker could be used for a better addition. Boucher seems like a bust as well.

Ryan Reeves has been in the playoffs 13 straight years. Discuss. - ImThatGuy
Classic "playoff hockey" guy.
It's not hard to buy that playoffs are a much different animal than reg season. He's useful in that regard. Even though he's not a talented player.

You're right, Joker could be used for a whole mess of different ideas. RDs are worth more in the wild than they are on paper.
I chose him because I believe he turns into a guy like today's Dakota Joshua. He's a prospect the Sabres don't have. And I filled out my roster without using him.

I like it other than the Joker deal. Think Kane would be put with Tage as a feeder as well. Otherwise, I think that's a pretty sure fire playoff team there. - QuinnFan
Eh, more about the signing than the position shown, but sure.
I see my Joker deal is a little unpopular. Inviting you and anyone else to send some ideas, maybe I'll modify the trade.

I think you're leaving value on the table with that trade though. Jokers worth more than a C-level prospect.
You could probably get Boucher for a pick. Hasn't played more than 24 games... in forever.
That Dakota Joshua is a UFA this year too. |

Over pay with talent to round out the d to become tougher, its a desperate need.
Ruff's system requires bullies on the roster to open up space for his talent, even last season when NJ lost its muscle his system cratered.
It's not a want, its the most important addition to the roster. |

I don't necessarily disagree, so what would you do for this roster to make the cap work, realistically? Trade Johnson?

I get it, just a nitpick. That 3rd line should roll, so isn't huge either way.
I wish I knew what his value really was around the league. RHD usually garner a good return. Speaking of a recent poopty skater I wouldn't mind packaging him and a lesser prospect for Crouse, but don't know if that gets the job done. I guess AZ, errrrr Utah, were trying to get RHD help to pair with Valimaki around the TDL with him as the trade bait. |

Well Dewar is filling in. Reaves would still be playing if Willy was in the lineup

Cause you want your most physical player in the lineup during the most physical time of the year
He made 1 mistake in game 1 not covering for his D-man. Beyond that hes been solid for them. Played exactly how you need him to last night. Its a team sport though and 1 player doesn't make or break you.
If they have a goalie they probably win last night. Samsonov is reallll bad. |

Moves:
Don't resign Bryson ($850k)
Greenway for futures ($3mm)
Package rights to Krebs ($900k) + either a prospect or draft pick for a mean 3rd pairing d - ideally late 20's with a history of fighting but known as a gem in the locker room (guy should cost in the $3-5mm range)
I would trade Joker for futures and sign a mean vet to league minimum
This opens the door to allow prospects to get playing time for injuries, to assess what's really down there, as well as balances the roster...while taking a big swing at the comfortable core players on the team now.
Then I would sign UPL on the condition he takes boxing lessons and I would make the entire team fight at the drop of the puck, every preseason game. |
