I saw that and liked the construction, but it is predicated on moving Skinner then...which is a big if.
Edit: Just saw the next comment, so we're in agreement there. I am somehow doubting Skinner waives to go anywhere but a contender. Simply put a contender doesn't want him unless he's 50% retained. At $4.5m he'd probably get a small return, but we'd be robbing peter to pay paul, so to speak. - QuinnFan
If the Sabres construct their roster right, if Lindy puts them in the top third of the league, you can shed the non-lottery 1st with him with maybe 3M in retention.
That's 6M in space for 25 and 26, which can be allocated for Peterka, Quinn and Byram. Which, yikes.

The real concern for me is not unloading Jeff Skinner by 7/1/25. - TheSabresTaco
I really think we could see a Skinner (3m retained) for Wilson type of trade as soon as this summer |

if you pay half of skinners contract to play elsewhere
are you going to get a better scorer for the next few years with the 4.5 mil in savings than what skinner himself will put up? - homiedclown
No, that's what I meant sorry, at $4.5m retained it's not beneficial. You'd be robbing Peter just to pay Paul. |

Makes sense. It's why I was thinking about those 2025-26 UFAs, if we can get in the playoffs and gain some credibility, we might be a destination. As it stands, we probably have no shot at these guys at all. |

Adams as your GM and Ruff as your coach, Washington needs skill, we need grit. We can send them Jokiharju and Samuelsson too if they want to give us Milano. Here, have a free Clifton, too. |

Using my buildout and keeping 2.5 million, it leaves 13.5M (Kane drops, Iafallo drops, 1.5M space in 2024 and 3 million rise in 25-26)
Peterka 5.5M (4.5 rise)
Quinn 3.5M (2.5 rise)
Byram 4.9M (1.0 rise)
Leaves 6.5M (on my build) for 25-26
Which perhaps supports a buyout for Skinner if all else fails. But that's a bad idea. Sabres get more by "buying" a trade and retaining 2.5-4.

I thought about that too in my build. what's he getting these days? 5x4 years? Makes building out the bottom 6 difficult without losing most of Skinner for the next 2 years. |

Are those all bridge numbers? Are you basing them on anything?
Haven't given them any thought yet. Just curious.

You're right. Effectively they don't have a lot of cap space, and maybe even less budget space. We also know the KA mentality is to worry about the next contracts and handcuff himself. Worry about Tuch's extension and avoid any commitments now. Maybe some threat to his job will push things, but he's conservative by nature. - Lunaion
Very surprised you didn't say anything about that UPL 5x$5M per deal he attempted to casually sneak in 🤣🤣 |

They don't have an issue with cap space unless they continue to be married till death with their players.
The mandated budget by the owner however is a real issue. |

That bottom 6:
What type of identity does that roster have? That 4th line is a childs line in shut down roles. |

Does he though?
Per Cap Friendly we have 23.2M to play with next season. If any of these are incorrectly priced, smack me, but doesn't leave a ton of meat on the bone:
UPL 5x5
Krebs 2x1.5
Joker 2x3
Replacing bottom 6 guys for Olo, Girgs, Jost, Robinson: 6m total on the low end
Need at least one D, I figure they resign Bryson 1x2m
That's 17.5M, leaving us with just under 6M to work with if my calculations are right. Have to keep in mind that after next season Quinn, Peterka, Byram and Greenway are up as well, with the first two looking at hefty raises. - QuinnFan

He isn't the big deal there, it's Quinn and Peterka. But he is a body, so you're only saving a couple million even letting him walk and replace him with an ELC. |

Didn't feel the need to focus on that. UPL extension gets enough conversation on it's own. Bigger picture is fun too. It's also not the craziest term or number. |

It's all fun speculation by us, but none of it matters unless Pegula allows them to spend above and beyond the cap, and they're willing to move any player, no matter what, if it improves the team.
That includes not being married to any of Samuelsson, Cozens, Tage etc. |
