You think that's a good thing? You think that justifies bringing back a core that has utterly failed eight years in a row? Weird. - fifty__missions
You know how many years Yzerman was a "failure" for the Detroit Red Wings?
Drafted in 1983, won his first Cup in 1997.
Steve, (frank)ing, Yzerman took 14 years to win a Cup in the NHL.
The difference between 1984 and 1997? Better drafting, better supporting cast and better (maybe the best) coaching. And two more Cups after that. |

I've yet to meet the Canucks fan that can troll the Leafs as effectively as a Leafs fan. |

Put him on the 4th line and say have fun getting a contract next year.
And NMC aren’t about avoiding trades, it’s about controlling where they get to go - Dozzer
100%! - add in the absolute crap storm of stupidity that will surround him all summer there is no way he doesn’t at least submit a list to Tre. A first round exit will be insanely loud in Toronto. You can say players don’t care and to a point they don’t but they are human you know.
…would be hilarious though. Put him down lineup playing half minutes (vs usual) and no PP time. He will want out to pad stats quick with free agency coming at him at seasons end. |

It can certainly be done, but it’ll be done on his terms and that usually doesn’t bode well for the team trading the player. - LeftCoaster
Unless Chicago, who would love a setup winger, would take him

The commitment from ownership to spend in Detroit and salary cap presently make this a bad comparable though man. Different situations. |

Paul McFarland, Mike Van Ryn and Guy Boucher...
These are the offensive geniuses who are amazing PP coaches...
That's what we're hanging our hats on? - Rare_Jewel
They were successful before in their last gigs before coming here. Who you hiring? Legit that would leave their current successful job and come here?

Leafs have more money to burn than any other team in the NHL. |

Datsyuk, Lidstrom and Zetterberg was more luck than good. No way guys like Shanny, Hull and Murphy get brought in with todays cap restraints. Different times cannot compare at all.

Oh no - I meant the futility with Stevie Y in Detroit was influenced by the owners in a non cap era not spending or being committed. It played a role. And the teams Stevie was on was not like the talent the have - until a year or 2 prior to first Cup (Stevie’s era) |

Drafting is all about scouting and player development, two areas the Leafs can spend with no limit and yet the Leafs seem to very rarely get any results with.
Did the Leafs not break the bank for Tavares? They got the money. They don't have the brains to spend it on the right guys. |

Utah has more picks and prospects than a 1/4 of the league. They can overpay for a soft winger........and then regret it. |

I have come close but I just think the following 3 things.
1. Dale Tallon / Gilbert Perreault
2. Mike Richter
3. Aaron Rome/Johnny Boychuck
4. Jake Virtanen/William Nylander |

Last year people thought I was insane that the cost for JT Miller would be Nylander in my opinion at the time.
$8M vs 11.5M moving forward. JT most likely becomes less effective moving forward. But, he's a type of player you would covet. 6 more years of JT.
Last year people thought I was trolling, still might. I thought it was a hockey trade. |
