Last summer's UFA D'men were complete poope. poope with term or poope with no term. I thank god for what he didn't do.
When I look at what Tree has done last summer and at the deadline it tells me that he didn't really believe in this team as constructed and he opted for bandaids and low cost investments. Frankly, he had to do 'something' b/c the team was still good and expected to compete but it clearly wasn't built in his image ..so spending his space on 1 yr commitments to Sammy, Domi, Bert and Klingberg was, for me, his way of kicking the can down the path one more year.
He kept his picks and prospects ...he's got his coach to fire ...he's got term. So he gets to rebuild this thing slowly in the image he wants. I'm curious to see what he does this summer. - The Law
Dude, the Canucks revamped their D partially by signing Soucy 3/3.35M and Cole 1/3M. Both add an edge.
Zadorov has been a great add for a 2026 3rd and a 2024 5th, 3.75M.
That's half the starting D-corps and aside from Soucy, there's no term. |

Yes, just like last year
Toss Woll in once the series is over, then go back to the starter who failed again

10 days? Dude I got food poisoning at 4AM 2 Christmas days ago and was fine by the next morning. I've had it twice and was over it within 24 hours both times, just have to go through 1 day of hell. - jmatchett383
It all really depends on your level of food poisoning but carry on. |

People can say Sammy has not played well without saying he is the reason he is down.
Sammy has not been good as a whole.
I wish Woll was put in from the start, he is the better goalie. |

Shoulda signed Helleybuck. Demko would be a huge help right now too. I mean he is carrying Vancouver right. - jribout
Except, helley was never available to sign. |

Samsonov is 50% of the problem. He absolutely sucks.
The D also sucks but his positioning is terrible and he allows some horrible goals. |

It would still be 3-1 boston with woll in net.
Sammy has been decent, has definitely kept them in games but has had the odd bad goal. |

Having fantastic goaltending is never a bad thing to have in hockey. Anybody who has watched even 1 game in their entire life knows that. |

Goaltending is absolutely one of many issues that are all directly related to the way this roster is faultily constructed. |

Given the Leafs cap situation, it's easier to get 1 great goalie than it is to get 6 great defensemen.
If you get a goalie who is 15% better and hire a coach who coaches his team to give up 15% less goals, you're talking about a significant improvement in results.
That's the difference between losing games 3-2 and winning them 3-2.

And that doesn't seem to be a problem for the Panthers. Worked out for them better than most others.
Cup final appearance as a wild card team followed by winning the division and looking like another deep playoff run.
If that's the alternative to losing in the 1st round 9 out of 10 times and never going past the 2nd round, you take it every single time. |

3 years ago people were ready to shoot Bobrovsky out of a cannon. THis playoff Helleybuck has let in more goals than anyone and he likely wins the Vezina.
Point is there are very few goalies you can rely on year in year out.

Only because the team collapses too deep to play overly cautious to make up for the bad D and bad goalie.
And the horrible PP. Which is fixed with a better coach.
The problems here can be fixed with coaching and goaltending.
Won't be perfect but it'll be way better than it is now.

We have no idea. Could even be 4-0 But starting Sammie and sticking with after games 2-3 was probably the right things based on how Woll finished the season. That being said may as well start Woll no he looked good in game 4.

Those people 3 years ago were obviously stupid. And wrong.
Hellebuyck isn't the reason the Jets are losing. He's the only reason they even made the playoffs in the first place.
I'll take a Vezina winner every single game in every single series over Samsonov. Every (frank)ing time. |

Except if you were GM of that team you would most likely have jettisoned off to the KHL a few years ago when he was sucking hind ass.

I don't agree.
The PP has personnel problems. It's not all coaching. They have core players unwilling/unable to fight for that middle ice. This won't just go away with a new coach. They need to change the core. |

If you're looking at the whiteboard in Tre's office, I would hope you see this verbatim....
REPLACE THE WHOLE (frank)ING COACHING STAFF. ASAFP!
???, Matthews, ???

Knies, ????, Jarnkrok
Holmberg, Kampf, Reaves
Rielly, ???
McCabe, ???

Woll
Cap Space Potential = $45M.
#1G = Merzlinkins, Sorokin, Korpisalo, Markstrom = $6M
#1RHD = Pulock = $7M
#2RHD = Matt Roy (LA) = $5M
#3RHD = Zadorov $4M
D and G fixed = $22M
#3C = PLD = $4.25 (50% retained and good replacement for JT)
#1 LW = Konecny ( $5.5M)
#1 RW = Domi ($3.5M)
#2 RW= Mangiapane ($6.5M)
#2 LW = Niederrieter ($5M)
Forwards fixed = $24.75
TOTAL FIXES = $46.75M
TOTAL CAP = $89.75M ($43M with existing players)
Work to do but you end up with a team that doesn't poop itself in the playoffs...
Konecny, Matthews, Domi
Nieder, Tavares, Mangiapane
Knies, PLD, Jarnkrok
Holmberg, Kampf, Reaves
Rielly, Pulock
McCabe, M. Roy
Beniot, Zadorov
Elvis
Woll
As many picks/prospects back as possible to trade the pussies and their Cap hits out.
(Since we don't have playoffs to look forward to, new players will have to do)
