Mayfield said he fractured his ankle in Game 1.
Said he’s starting to walk around and will be 100% ready for training camp.

He should not have been playing. He was not effective.

See Mayfield was hurt all season. He had to play with other injuries to other guys. Well at least he should be better for the next 7 years. ( sarcasm) |

Casey Cizikas, asked about centering Matt Martin and Cal Clutterbuck for so long and the trio’s off-ice friendship: “It was amazing.”
That doesn't sound like those two are going to be back |

Not yet, I assume he'll take questions at some point. Martin and Clutterbuck both reiterated that they don't want to retire. |

I highly doubt Lou is stepping aside. With that, I also highly doubt he is mailing it in and doing any combination of trading Palms, Nelson or JGP, and/or buying out Lee at the draft or before the season starts. Possibly something at the 2025 trade deadline, but I wouldn't hold my breath on that either. My hope is that he thanks MM and Clutterbuck for their contributions over the years and moves on from them. Not even certain Lou is ready to do this... |

Don't think anyone sees any of that stuff as "likely" but some would agree that it's what should happen.
Friedman said on his most recent podcast that he thinks the Isles will be looking to add scoring in the offseason. Stamkos is almost certainly staying put in Tampa. Guentzel is out there but my money is on him re-signing in CAR. I would imagine FLA finds a way to get Reinhart in at a reasonable number because of no state tax. That leaves a 33yo Marchessault who is likely going to be the odd-man out in Vegas, maybe Patrick Kane, a washed up Tarasenko, and a collection of some other second-tier scorers. And forgetting all else, do any of them really want to sign here? |

Where is Lou getting Cap space not moving Nelson and Palms? MM and Cal do not save enough. |

I'm fine with moving on from Martin and Clutterbuck, but the reality is that they are the least of the Isles' problems. Their combined cap hit is $3.25 MM. If Lou convinces them to stay on at reduced salaries on one-year deals, I'm not losing sleep over it. They could prove to be useful depth. And if Lou is able to find younger, faster, better options, either in Bridgeport or elsewhere, I'm fine with that, too.
The bigger issues to me are:
1. Sorokin. His cap hit is $8.25 MM, but he was way too inconsistent this season to justify that cap hit. [I know his cap hit was lower this past season.]. I am hoping to see the Vezina candidate Sorokin next season.
2. Defense. Pelech and Pulock were not the shut-down d-men we've grown accustomed to, especially Pelech. I'm hoping it was just a minor injury that he was playing through. IMO, Dobson and Romanov will keep getting better. The 3rd pairing guys are not great. I love Reilly's skating and offense, but his defense not so much. Bortuzzo may retire. Mayfield? If he's been injured all season, then hopefully he plays better next season. Aho skates well, but is probably too small for the NHL. Bolduc??? Hopefully, he improves enough for Roy to trust him with more playing time. [I liked the little bit of Wotherspoon I saw in the NHL, and now he's playing D for the Bruins. Not sure why the Isles gave up on him.]
3. Top 9 forwards. If Lou can get value in return for some of the older guys (Nelly, Palms, Pageau, Lee), it's something he needs to seriously consider. If the Isles need to part with picks or prospects to trade them, however, then I would not be in favor of that. The Isles need to start looking more to the future, and trading picks and prospects just slows down the rebuilding process. They need those even more than they need cap space.
Not sure why, and maybe it's something Roy can work on in training camp, but the Isles have to do a better job next season getting the hell out of their own zone. Countless times we witnessed them getting hemmed in their zone..........usually leading to goals or penalties or icings. And this was often after winning face-offs or otherwise gaining control of the puck. I am hoping that Roy can set up some sort of system where the d-men and forwards work together to advance the puck. Otherwise, it's gonna be a LONG season...

It’s madness if the retool does not start this summer John. Islanders are not one forward away and when have the Islanders been able to sign the quality UFA they need? It makes no sense to keep Martin or Cal or Nelson and Palms for that matter. Maybe you wait another year to buy out Lee? |

The defense is slow and unskilled, which is why they have trouble exiting the zone with control and ultimately end up just icing it or chipping it into the neutral zone and turning over possession. Forwards certainly shoulder some of the blame but expecting an aging defensive core to get better in that area is going to be like drawing blood from a stone
I am all for capitalizing on the value of Nelson and Palmieri and retaining some money to maximize the return on them. And I'm still a big proponent of buying out Lee, but I have no expectation of that happening. Giving up picks to move someone is not an option under any circumstances. |

I agree. Very little Roy can do to improve the current dmen.
I would not give up picks to move Nelson and Palms. Lee I would buy out and I doubt it happens. I hope Lou does not think the big moves will be letting MM and Cal go. |

No idea Cpt. Lou should talk for at least two hours to make up for all the times he says nothing. |

I asked Lou Lamoriello specifically whether he expects director of goaltending Mitch Korn to return. Lou quickly said "yes."
Industry expectation is the opposite.
