So a team where he can play on a line with someone like Auston Matthews? - Canada Cup
At 11m he needs to carry his own line unless you’re claiming he needs a stud to make him tick. Kane seemed to do just fine in his prime. |

Well in the first period in games 5 & 6 combined he faced 3.
Hard to believe Will would have won them the series if they played like they did in the 5 games he didn’t play in IMO. - Cush29
22 shots in game 4? Might have won that one. |

He could do that. But if he gets put on the 4th line and gets no powerplay time, his value in a contract year plummets. If he wants another $11M contract, he needs to move on and show another team that he's worth it. - PrinceLH
I think at least one team will see what the Leafs did to him and still offer him money based on his previous years. I mean its not like worse contracts are not awarded yearly.

What?
No I’m saying why would he accept a trade away from a team where he gets to play with the best scorer in the league. |

I think Tree absolutely deserves credit. Pretty sure someone on this board said Edmunson was too slow to be on the game 1 line up.
That poster has zero clue how hockey works (It wasn't you) - Aaron_85
Agreed Tre deserves a lot of credit with what he did with almost no runway. Now he needs to move Marner for anything and use that cap space wisely. |

At least we can agree on that.
Such a disappointment this series.
I’ve never had this feeling after a leafs playoffs. So many solid performances by some individuals, they deserved better and Marner needs to hang his head low. |

Leafs Regular season Goals per game
1. Colorado 3.68
2. Toronto 3.63
Leafs Playoffs Goals per game
1. Colorado 5.60
15. Washington 1.75
16. Toronto 1.71
Not a good stat.

The scouting department also thought Malgin was gonna be a thing
Can't have it both ways. They DO have pro scouts in the room too scouting other teams so they also make mistakes. - Aaron_85 You're right, they do make mistakes and that's why we're not playing in the second or third round the last few years.

New mgmt & coach that could all change. He’s soft. If he’s that good he’d do well elsewhere on a real contender. That is if a cup matters more than feeding the best sniper in the league. Is he a ME guy or a WINNER? |

Or he might have given up 6.
Goaltending didn’t lose them this series it was lack of scoring.
Again.
Sammy will be gone this offseason so all those convinced Woll is the second coming will get to see if they are right or not.
I think he’s fantastic but also injury prone.
They need a reliable backup who has proven himself at the NHL level IMO.
Preferably more than a back up more of a 1A/B scenario. |

There was plenty of good stuff from many players to take away from the series. Knies Bertuzzi McCabe for starters were warriors. Something lacking for years. |

So trade him to a contender with $11M in cap room? |

you mean Marner wanting to stay in TOR because of Matthews..?
perhaps I'm wrong but wouldn't there be a very strong possibility that he wants to get away from that market and play somewhere quieter with less pressure?

Oh Christ that would make great tv eh - Mitch would literally cry on bench mid game. It would cause for change in the “On Bench Culture” or the “Toxic Masculinity on NHL Benches” headlines |

We should see if we could pick his pocket for Noah Dobson. He would be the Leafs powerplay quarterback playing on the right side. I would do that, one for one.

Honestly I’m with you on this. I feel like if Tree asks, tells him no way we pay that much, doesn’t waste him away necessarily but he doesn’t get 34 as his centre - and he can work a deal to a destination Mitchy wants he will go.
He’s a married Tik Tok kid - maybe LA? Sharks Ducks even Canes - lots of players like him enjoy playing on those places. Not sure who Buds would want or could get but who knows.
I also get the bad look it may give to try and be forceful about it (to players league wide) but at same time be confident and build a better roster - nothing cures players feelings about your management style than a chance to win a Cup |

Keefe actually said this in his presser:
"When teams play the Leafs, they set up the game for the Leafs to beat themselves."
That's a fired quote if I ever heard one. |
