If they ask him to leave, present him with an offer for another team, he's going to take it. He's not going to stick around if they're asking him to leave. - gravyface
If he makes a decision based on feels, yeah. If he makes a business decision he will go if it’s a team where he wants to lock in for 8 years or where he thinks he can be in best position for going into free agency. Is there a team out there better than one more year with the Leafs for that? If so, that’s a possibility. |

Big 4 days are over depending on Marner’s response - Canada Cup
Get over your shtick
If you think that Marner is going to stay after the fans AND management wants him gone I think you are out to lunch.
If management wants to keep him yeah I can see him wanting to stay.
But he is in for a tough year. When Willy was moved off PP1 for other guys it won’t be him now, it will be Marner.
He won’t be put in positions to succeed and the fans will hate him. |

Agreed, if it's a location he's good with. - fifty__missions
Can’t see him being a leaf.
His whole issue is how he can’t handle the spotlight. Well get ready for it to be X10 worse. |

He's a bigger part of the problem than you credit in the sense that not only is he massively underperforming in relation to his contract, but his cap hit is crippling what management can do with the rest of the roster. - fifty__missions
I don’t disagree but we all knew this was going to happen on the backend of this deal.
What I saw from Tavares in the playoffs I didn’t see from Marner. J.T. didn’t shy away from contact, I didn’t see him floating at all, and he didn’t completely miss his assignment leading to the series winning goal.
Had we seen a Cup between when Tavares signed and now I don’t think there would be much complaining about him from the fan base.
I am a Marner fan. I lived in London when he played for the Knights and I was overjoyed when he was drafted by Toronto. I saw glimpses of a primadonna attitude when he tried to hold out. I’ve seen him year after year pull the same crap in the playoffs. A scared little boy amongst men. I personally have seen everything I need to see to say they need to move on from him.
Tavares hasn’t given me a reason to feel the same. I actually hope they re-sign him on the cheap to play 3C after this deal runs out. I wouldn’t strip him of the Captaincy but I would make Matthews Captain and give Tavares and Reilly each an A. |

That’s what I have been saying.
If Marner plays bad it’s because he plays tentative and can’t handle the big moment. |

A no trade/move clause doesn't mean a player is unmovable. It just provides that player and his family a measure of security that they won't get a phone call suddenly and have to pull their kids out of school and move to a new city with no warning. It's a symbol of job security, but it doesn't guarantee you'll never be traded - it just means the player will get a lot more say about it. Yeah, he can technically turn down any move and just be a Richard about it. And, management can be Richards and force his hand. Ideally, neither side wants to be Richards and if a move is necessary then that conversation can happen.
Personally, the core guys with the most trade value right now are Matthews and Nylander. You really want to keep both of them if possible. I don't know what Marner's trade value is right now, but he's not going to get you a Sergachev or top pair D. He's also not going to get you an elite goalie. So, what does one reasonably expect for him? I hear a roster player, a good prospect, and a high pick. That's reasonable, but it depends on who those roster players are. Top pair right-handed defense are at a premium. Quality goalies are at a premium. Legit 2C's are at a premium. Marner is an elite setup winger, he has value, but I don't think he gets you a Dobson AND Sorokin AND a pick. (edit : especially with his expected contract value coming up) |

Who gives a (frank) about the fans and being angry.
They'll cool off in a few weeks. Come October, they'll be cheering again.
If Marner agrees to waive, great, move him. If he doesn't. He stays and plays out his contract or gets extended.
We want blood, understandable. So fire the whole coaching staff |

His whole issue is not about handling spotlights. It's about how his east-west, contact-avoidance game is useless in the playoffs. |

Nah don’t see Marner being willing to endure what a year would have in store for him.
Management wants him gone.
Fans do.

Once he starts pilling up the points, fans will move onto something else. |

Elliot Friedman said this morning is likely Marner and that the core 4 days are over.
Even a 4 year old could see that it’s Marner even if he didn’t name names.
So I’m going off based on that.
Not what Drexel says. I fear a 4 year old might know more. |

He plays tentative because the middle of the ice is contested and he avoids contact at all costs. It takes away his use of speed completely. |

and lol okay I don’t agree, I think the fans get nasty.
Mitch couldn’t handle this fanbases when the majority of the fanbase loved him.
You can think what you want, I think fans and media will be nasty on him.
If the core 4 is here, Mitch Marner will not have a good time. |

He is Uber talented, he should be able to figure it out like every other player like him.
Kane was a playoff hero. |
