Willy didn't just come off a 6 year deal he hasn't lived up too, he was actually incredibly underpaid through his previous deal. So big difference there. - joel878
Oh i agree. Marner got too much money from Dubas, but thats mostly on dubas.
However marner did post a 94pt season prior to the contract...Nylander never came close to that until 22/23 and this year.
Marners been over a point per game player since 2018/19 1.22ppg. So hes been close to earning his salary.
Like ive said many times, if he wants more than 11.5m on his next contract, he can (frank) off.

Marner will come in between 11.5 (Willy) and 13.2 (AM)
My guess is 12.75 |

imo Woll the the biggest impact. he went head to head with Swayman who did not give up a weak goal the whole series. he had 6 quality starts. Woll was able to best him in 2 starts
Samsonov was decent in gm 7, but he needed to be better than swayman..who was the best goalie in rd1 - senstroll
If Boston was down their 2 top players and swayman got injured we would have beaten them. Then the naysayers here would be trying to attach an asterisk to it. |

We have tried this. It doesn't work. Our defense isn't as bad as everyone thinks. We held Boston to plenty of low scoring games in round 1 and unless two more dmen are going to help make every game a shut out, it ain't happening. - Aaron_85
Its not as bad.
But we have no one from the back end that can change the outcome of a game either. Shutting people down or a big shot.
I get it, we didnt have assets to acquire that type of dman this season and tre did a good job with what he had imo.
But thats been lacking for years, it needs to be dealt with.
And maybe thats with moving marner out or waiting until Jt is off the books.
We'll see. |

run it back. MM in a contract year could be amazing. His playoff performance will dictate his contract. |

Next year is going to be pretty painful. Willy's contract kicks in, JT is still on the books, and I'm very skeptical of them being able to move MM. Going to be a lot of holes to fill with minimal cap space.

Sammy let in that tie goal, just left the side wide open. Woll didnt do that.
was no room for error and Sammy tends to leave room for that. even if he was really good otherwise.
anyways...no point dissecting it further.

Nobody can honestly say that the injuries and illness didn’t have an impact and alter the outcome. The team played pretty good and they didn’t give up many shots. This was the first year that I thought we had the better team. |

So basically roll it back... at some point, you have to stop banging your head against the wall.
Marner's gone, Keefe's gone, possibly even Tree. Full house clean-out. Let's go. - gravyface
Absolutely not roll it back.
You say full house clean-out? Okay. Get rid of Matthews too? 1 goal in the entire series? Won more games without him than with him?
Stupid right? Exactly.
You keep the best players you have in their prime years and you cut out the fat.
Firing Shanahan, Treliving, Keefe and getting rid of the bottom half of the team.
But you keep your best players which is absolutely Matthews, Marner and Nylander.
If anybody should be asked to waive the NMC, it's Tavares. End of story.
You know that Shanahan is the President, right? Tree is the GM, and he makes the decisions on personnel. - gravyface
You know that Shanahan is the guy making all the decisions and Treliving is doing the paper work right? |
