That was a sad part of these playoffs.
Eddie was in key scoring positions more than any other Leaf D. That doesn’t seem right to me. - Woderwick
Totally. Begs some concern about a guy like Lilly. |

Aren't Marner and Tavares both coming off the books after next season?
If so, in a worst case, they both walk and the Leafs get almost $22m in cap space. That cap space is just as good as a bunch of middling picks, prospects, or other teams rejected middle-sixers.
Those who are dead set on breaking up the Beatles, just wait on more agonizing season and two of them are gone. - GalacticStone
wait are you trying to make Cap space + nothing better than Cap space + picks and prospects?

Not sure that’s a bad thing. That’s where Q could start to make a difference - through the media. The media is pretty simple in their desire to find a story, good or bad. |

No, but actually moving them for a good return is not going to be easy. So, in the worst case scenario, they are both gone sooner than later. Ideally, you want to get assets back for them. I worded it badly.

Toronto sports media owns the (frank)ing team.
Media loves pushing agendas. Would be the easiest redemption story ever told. |

I liked Lilly before this year, and especially before these playoffs. I would hate to see how he would have performed against Florida.
I should rephrase that. I WOULD have liked to see how he would have performed against Florida this round. |

If Marner was 34 right now, yes. But he isn't. He's 26. Just like Matthews' best years are still ahead of him. And Nylander too. They aren't in the same category as Tavares.
Just like if you look up the difference in playoff points and success between Yzerman's first 8 seasons and the next 8 seasons after that.
83/84-89/90
39 games, 19 goals, 47 points -17
90/91-98/99
113 games, 45 goals, 107 points +8
And again, Marner, for the first 8 years of his career has more than twice as many playoff points than Tavares had (more than Matthews and Nylander too by the way).
Tavares is older. His prime has come and gone (26-34). Marner hasn't reached that point yet. From 26-34, there is another 8 years for Marner to prove what Tavares couldn't.
If the logic is that Marner needs to be traded, then Matthews and Nylander have to be traded too and the entire team needs to tank again. - Rare_Jewel
Yzerman started having a better supporting cast. For instance, they drafted Konstantinov, Fedorov, Lidstrom and others in 1989. Marner and the Leafs don't have those types of-reinforcements coming. |

Q’s a sharp guy, I’m sure he could handle it.
Simmons seems like Vito from Woodbridge. He’s more of a Leaf fan than he would ever admit. He’s just more Bulloty than most. |

Exactly.
Which is why the Leafs need to start drafting and developing players that aren't lottery pick players. They have one or two but not enough. And definitely none on D.
They have multiple elite players, what they need is to continue to add to the supporting cast.
And coaching. Red Wings added Scotty Bowman. Leafs need a similar upgrade.

Both might still need some time before having an impact/ be NHL regulars though.
Just look at Robertson. He's getting there but it took him a few years as a pro. - Scabeh
No.
They will be our saviours.
We'll expect too much from them and then tear them down when they dont meet our over inflated expectations |

I had to do a double take when I heard Mitch say that. This right here is the problem. Self entittled. Him, Melander and Mathews.
One of those 3 HAVE to go. Looks like its going to be Mitch. So be it. I dont think trade JT, but I also dont think anyone has the stones to do it.
Do we try and keep Domi and Bertuzzi?

My list of Leafs who exceeded my expectations this 1st round is not very long.
Guess the results shouldn’t be surprising.
I do think without a doubt - Boston was there for the taking. |

If we're fixing the D we need at least one that can smash a slap shot from the point, especially on the PP.
Want to fix the PP, adding that threat with the rest would be a sage move. - underhill14

I’m undecided on Bert. He has very limited puck possession skills, he can’t stay on his feet, scoring - 1 goal in the playoffs. He’s going to be 30 next year. I dunno’, it all depends on the $’s for me. Sure he brings more than just scoring, but I’d like to see more from him especially if it’s $5M+. |
