Let it go man
It’s okay, you believed in Sammy at one point
Take your dignity and realize that posting under a .899 SV% in 4 of your 5 playoff runs is terrible - Santo_44
I agree he could have been better but his run support was piss poor. Shame that Woll is made of glass. Hopefully Hildeby is durable |

I'm not sure he fits anyway b/c he's going to be too expensive for the Leafs 3rd pairing ($2.5M++ in arbitration) and I can't see Tree being ok with him in the top 4.
I wonder how they feel about Benny/McCabe as a pair. Good enough to pencil them in and just find a good partner for Rielly and a depth guy(s)? Or is Benny on the 3rd pair and you have to find 2 top 4 guys?
Either way ...I think Lilly is gonzo. - The Law
I would agree on Lily, he doesn't have much value though. Leafs should be looking to try to replenish some of the draft picks that Dubas gave away. Robertson is in the same boat. He has skill, but easy to move off the puck. Ship them both. Benoit is signed to a nice deal, McCabe needs to be re-signed, both are keepers. Also not sure if I would keep Jarnkrok. |

He's probably not going anywhere but if he did the formula has to include
- him being interested in another spot this summer;
- that new team being ready to pay him what he wants on a new 8 yr extension; and
- the Leafs being ok with whatever fraction of value they'll get for him and being ok with whatever $$ they likely need to take back.
Another variable ....would MM agree to leave town this summer after laying an egg ..knowing that his home town legacy would be pretty much poop. I'm thinking his ego says no and he bets on himself to do better next year.
Tree has his work cut out for him if he wants to shake up the core. - The Law
Any MM trade scenario starts with him liking where he goes to. That is pretty obvious.
That team would pay him.
Leafs gain by losing. The cap space alone is the key but how much is the big Q. Gain decently large cap space & 1 key asset imo.
LAK come to mind. Cali lifestyle appeals to many players. Good team that is ready to get over the hump & needs offense. Built well.
Don’t see any other West conference teams a fit as it stands that he might waive for.
Out East TB & Carolina look possible. Canes deep on D & prospects & picks. TB has state tax advantage & still a good deep team.
Maybe MM for Sergachev to partner Reilly or a cheaper Cernak & try to sign Stamkos if he walks or another UFA RHD like Pesce. |

Keefe is really bad, and he will be gone as soon as possible. His feet will be catching up to his ass on his way out of town.

MM for PLD/Clarke
Flakey enigma in PLD & a young good RHD. Would LAK go for it?
They get out from under PLD’s recent 8/8.5m contract something they might do for cap for MM. Clarke RHD is tough to pry out of em. |

For a radical move and not a retread -
How about the DU coach - Natl Champ -
Beat both BU & BC and had to implement completely different game plans for each -
And made excellent in game adjustments- |

Take the risk on an unproven NHL coach? Keefe 2.0 idk about that. Associate coach to start off. Coach Q seems more logical his baggage aside. |

Pass. Not taking PLD on a forever contract. I’d rather keep Marner for a year and be in much better shape when his and JTs deals come off the books. He’s got some $ to spend this summer to try to pick up some more assets on D and a goalie. |

We were 1/20 on the powerplay. If we scored just 5 pp goals, we win this series in 6 games. 5/20 is not exactly killing it. 1/20 is death. There's your cause of death. - fifty__missions
Yeah, the weird discourse about the D and not having enough puck movers... I don't think we were hemmed in very often at all. The D punched way way above their weight class in this series. Yeah, the Bruins O isn't exactly the Oilers, but still: ultra tight series, and our D played very well.
Still, I think shifting Marner's cap space towards some D and G upgrades would go a long way to making us a contender. |

Sure. See Tocchet in Van.
But since we have a bunch of UFAs walking and still have to fill out the roster before next season, why not send out an extra $10.9M and really balance the D and G for said new coach.
Is it so hard to kill a couple birds with one stone in Toronto?
Trade Marner/Lily to LA for PLD/Matt Roy. Use a 3rd team to retain some Cap on PLD so the Cap in and out is a wash. Plus when JT is done you've got a solid #2C to step in and an additional $11m to play with one season after this.
Use the $19M available Cap:
Sign Zadorov
Sign Domi and Bertuzzi with slight raises or none at all.
Get everyone including McMann and Woll healthy.
Find a solid #1B to share duties with Woll.
New Coach then can work with:
Bert, Matthews, Domi
Knies, Tavares, Nylander
Minten, PLD, Jarnkrok
McMann, Kampf, Reaves
Rielly, Roy
Beniot, McCabe
Webber, Zadorov
Timmins
Woll
Ullmark

Yup PLD isn’t exactly a target. Was a poor example on my part.
How about Cernak+ from TB?

See above, thought the same except get Matt Roy. LA or Anaheim are perfect destinations for Marner. |

Low hanging fruit over these last few years. You are totally correct.
AM & Willy & all of the others not named JT & Marner played well & up to their contracts. On Reilly yes he wasn’t up to fans standards but he is forced into top pairing D when he would perfectly good as a #3D. That isn’t on him especially after Tre built a deeper better D that the Leafs haven’t had in years. The B’s struggled to score & Pastrnak was effectively shut down. Sure he won game 7 but that on 1 bad decision on Sammy not to play the puck.
Coming back down 1-3 was impressive & showed at least there was more battle & desperation. It was must see PO hockey & just didn’t get over the finish line. Round 2 was going to be the biggest test no matter who won. The B’s will get squashed but the Panthers are glad it’s them not the Leafs. I truly believe that. Too bad it’s not happening as I was actually siding with the Leafs. Yes ppl think or say I’m trolling but I hate the B’s & all the league has ignored over the years when they get favoured treatment. All I wanted was the best team to win & they didn’t. Best on best is riveting PO must see watching. - Nighthawk
What most fans seem to forget is that the Leafs were significant underdogs going into this series against the Bruins. I could care less who wins between the Bruins and the Panthers. That said, at least the Bruins are a franchise that matters and has a strong fan base. The Panthers are nomads. A couple of bad seasons and they will pack up shop. Lowest income teams in 2023 - Arizona, Buffalo, Columbus and Florida. This despite the fact that Florida went to the finals. I am confident that the Bruins / Panthers series will be a goonfest. Both goalies will get run over regularly

Nah, that contract will look great in 1 year with JT off the books and PLD as a 2C especially if you pass it through another team and give them a pick to retain 25%.
PLD would be a great add after moving out the softness. |
