is it fair to ask if Marner is kind of in the Breadman category… like runs hot and cold…
Breadman if I remember correctly was getting blowtorched last year over the playoffs… |

Yeah, the weird discourse about the D and not having enough puck movers... I don't think we were hemmed in very often at all. The D punched way way above their weight class in this series. Yeah, the Bruins O isn't exactly the Oilers, but still: ultra tight series, and our D played very well.
Still, I think shifting Marner's cap space towards some D and G upgrades would go a long way to making us a contender. - gravyface
My train of thought exactly & why I single out LAK TB & Carolina. Idk maybe other teams but MM would need to want to waive to accept. |

Pass. Not taking PLD on a forever contract. I’d rather keep Marner for a year and be in much better shape when his and JTs deals come off the books. He’s got some $ to spend this summer to try to pick up some more assets on D and a goalie. - Canada Cup
Agree.

Sure. See Tocchet in Van.
But since we have a bunch of UFAs walking and still have to fill out the roster before next season, why not send out an extra $10.9M and really balance the D and G for said new coach.
Is it so hard to kill a couple birds with one stone in Toronto?
Trade Marner/Lily to LA for PLD/Matt Roy. Use a 3rd team to retain some Cap on PLD so the Cap in and out is a wash. Plus when JT is done you've got a solid #2C to step in and an additional $11m to play with one season after this.
Use the $19M available Cap:
Sign Zadorov
Sign Domi and Bertuzzi with slight raises or none at all.
Get everyone including McMann and Woll healthy.
Find a solid #1B to share duties with Woll.
New Coach then can work with:
Bert, Matthews, Domi
Knies, Tavares, Nylander
Minten, PLD, Jarnkrok
McMann, Kampf, Reaves
Rielly, Roy
Beniot, McCabe
Webber, Zadorov
Timmins
Woll
Ullmark - underhill14
Moving MM & taking on PLD is already a gamble. I’d seek more on the cheap like I said in Clarke. Even that package is risky as CC said. A 3rd team taking on 8yrs cap will be costly. |

MM for PLD/Clarke
Flakey enigma in PLD & a young good RHD. Would LAK go for it?
They get out from under PLD’s recent 8/8.5m contract something they might do for cap for MM. Clarke RHD is tough to pry out of em. - Nighthawk

See above, thought the same except get Matt Roy. LA or Anaheim are perfect destinations for Marner. - underhill14
Ducks suck don’t see it. Sorry
Canes are cheap but they’re deep in assets. Perennial scoring for the PO’s is their Achilles heal. |

About the same, and probably the guy Marner's agent uses as a comparable. For me, Leafs should be looking to add wingers more like Matthew Knies and less like Marner moving forward. Go to the net and inflict pain and suffering on the opposing goalie and team.

What most fans seem to forget is that the Leafs were significant underdogs going into this series against the Bruins. I could care less who wins between the Bruins and the Panthers. That said, at least the Bruins are a franchise that matters and has a strong fan base. The Panthers are nomads. A couple of bad seasons and they will pack up shop. Lowest income teams in 2023 - Arizona, Buffalo, Columbus and Florida. This despite the fact that Florida went to the finals. I am confident that the Bruins / Panthers series will be a goonfest. Both goalies will get run over regularly - winsix
I had the Leafs in 6 if AM & Willy were healthy. Even after in 7.
As for Florida watching the PO’s there are many empty seats & they don’t have to pay a right nut for tickets. That said they are very well built & why I’m bullish on them. Only team I see beating them is NYR. |

if Keefe is so bad, shouldnt they run it back with new coach? - drexel
For me anyways they have a few issues but are still a good team. Keefe is out coached every series…….other coaches make changes to the teams style of play when needed, not Keefe, Leafs are very predictable. They also have too much money in too few players, so when one goes down it leaves a huge hole. This also leaves us thin in other places. D needs to be shored up, we need a steady and good goalie. We all know Sammy isn’t the guy. We can’t lay it all on the shoulders of Woll who’s played less than 40 games in the league and seems injury prone. Marner is going to want a raise and he’s not worth his current contract…….absolutely NO way he deserves more than Willie. The pp sucks. This core has been on the pp, together, for years……and they lay an egg in playoffs. When the going gets tough this core can’t do it…….7 game seven losses, they didn’t even show up for game 1 and game 4. So no, it’s not JUST Keefe. |

Very similar players getting 11m & open to the microscope. Panarin imo a better scorer. Still never a fan of paying wingers top C money not named Kane in his prime or going back to Jagr. Willy is the latest but he can be a game changer in PO’s where MM just doesn’t give me that feel. Knies is excellent & will only get better. Minten is coming soon. McMann was a nice revelation so resign Berts & Domi if they sign a fair deal. Plenty of depth upfront rest goes to a top D man & goalie. |

Lilly as our 6D playing with Benoit will be fine. Need a puck mover to play with Benoit, and big physical puck-movers are not cheap. - gravyface Liljegren is garbage. He's knocked off the puck all of the time and is injured a lot as well. You can't win with him in the top 6. Needs to be gone!

We were 1/20 on the powerplay. If we scored just 5 pp goals, we win this series in 6 games. 5/20 is not exactly killing it. 1/20 is death. There's your cause of death. - fifty__missions I guess you missed the 2 games the night before. 2 games, 3 total goals. It's what happens in the playoffs.

It was a designed long dump in to his off side. It was a break down by others that made it look worse & made him stand out. Resulted in a clear break away that left him on an island. 7 games into a series he could’ve been tired & banged up. It was bad team D overall. Probably any other player not Pastrnak & it’s a different story. - Nighthawk Marner was ahead of him on the play and just stopped skating. It doesn't happen if 16 just stays with him.

Agree - how he is even remotely in the conversation is laughable. The guy scored 16 (frank)en goals and 40 total points and was a -9 playing all 82 games. Making $8.5M for 7 more years makes this one of the worst contracts in the NHL. No thanks. Maybe the Habs should trade for him? They already have Anderson and Gallagher being paid big $ to not score. They could go for the tri-fecta.
