Treliving is 100% going to go out and get a good goalie to pair with Woll.

The days of trying to jam a Sammy or a Campbell into this team are over.

I agree. Directly pointing out Woll's injury prone-ness makes that a certainty.

I think he said something about having the 2nd best goalie all the time? Or was that reading between what he was saying.

"Everything on the table" includes Tavares.

Agreed. It's not that it's off the table - in fact it'd be the best outcome but I just don't see that one being achievable. Marner more achievable.

I'll agree with AA here. I haven't been a blind follower of this team. I've been advocating change here for years. I won't pay money for this product. It's not a winning product. Where AA and I probably disagree is that I think his son needs to be moved.
- fifty__missions

that's ok with not spending any coin on the team.
you still follow the team and cheer for them otherwise you'd pull a spatso

He said he's sick of the excuses and having to talk about things like "making the other teams goalie look unbeatable".

I think the words I've heard make it clear that they'd like to go that route ....will obviously depend on what they can do.

got to think today ..they can't say too much about the need for change b/c it'd undermine their leverage in trade talks.

But I think they're making it clear enough they'd like to make some significant personnel changes.

- The Law

When asked specifically about the core 4, he brought up the “not the time for patience” line again. I was also struck by Pelley talking about the cohesion and unity between Shannh and Tree. It sounds like he doesn’t think the problem before we Shanny’s poorcell service

JT will no doubt face a difficult year if he stays, especially if word gets out the Leafs ask him about a move. That word will get out. He will continue to regress, and the spotlight will not be kind. And they may do something regarding the captaincy.

He can sign a discount and fans will embrace it.

Marner can too....but at 27 he will not.

Because ownership is incompetent.

They know nothing about hockey. That’s why Shanny got the job, because they assumed he knew a lot about today’s game.

All MLSE cares about is continuing to dupe new waves of innocent naive Canadians, Ontarians mostly, to come suck at the teet of Toronto sports teams. There’s no winning history anymore, the Leafs 11 (or 13) cups mean nothing now. The raptors win was a total fluke, and they never deserved to win one. But they’ll keep milking that as long as there’s gullible people (such as yourselves)who keep believing.

There’s zero integrity in what they’re doing anymore. Keep paying $300 for nosebleeds, keep buying poop ass Fanatics jerseys, pay $40 for a pint of piss. You’ll keep doing it because you think it makes you part of something. You get to go tell your friends you experienced something awesome, post that poop on IG. Chant GO LEAFS GO in Unions station after a regular season win.

Keep believing. Keep being a sucker.

Ownership is doing what they should. They aren't hockey people, so they are leaving the hockey decisions to hockey people. Brendan Shanahan won 3 Stanley Cups, is in the Hall of Fame - and was actually named one of hockey's 100 greatest players (a distinction I probably wouldn't have given him if I were making the decisions, but . . . ). He has worked in the NHL head offices - he knows his way around the game and is respected in all circles.

The Shanaplan hasn't worked and his contract hasn't been extended yet, but there's no reason to fire a guy who has 1 year left and is in a role they don't want to abolish - and in all honesty shouldn't. You need a hockey brain between the GM and Ownership unless the GM is GM & President - and then have too many roles to be as effective a GM.

The Leafs have expanded their scouting staff, training facilities, development programs and minor league programs. They improved their sports science programs, medical programs and training programs. Most of that stuff happened under Dubas or Lou, but it all happened under Shanahan. To be fair Burke and Nonis did start some of it as I recall - but it rocketed under Shanahan.

The Leafs are supply & demand personified - they charge what the market will bear.
That said, they are spending and they are putting a lot of the money in good places.
They need to make some really tough decisions and that's been the crux of the problem all along - when do you give up on players just arriving at their peak/prime?

It's one thing to be mad at the results, but it's absurd to think that Shanahan doesn't know anything about the game or blame the Leafs for just being there to collect money. That's a narrative as old as Ballard's corpse.

Being a Leafs fan is the hardest fan to be in sports.

Because the whole point of it is accepting that your team is the joke of the league, and acting like “but this year will be different,” while everyone points and laughs at you.

Leafs fans mocking Islanders fans (for the we don’t need you thing) is a new level of blissful ignorance.

If Shanny is still here, so is the Core 4. I don't see them doing anything with Marner until the off-season next year, and he'll probably walk.

Shanny's last question from Jonas Siegel was if he still believed the core 4 could win - he basically said its time for change.

He’s giving pretty clear messages that they’ll at least raise the idea of moving with Mitch. Whether or not it happens isn’t really in their control

I respect your opinion, but respectfully disagree.

Since when does it matter if Shanny has one year left on his contract? Who gives a (frank)?

Also, Leafs players aren’t entering their prime, they’re in the middle of it, or are about to start leaving it.

I couldn’t care less about scouting or medical staff.

Buzz Aldrin walked on the moon. NASA didn’t put him in charge of the space shuttle program because of it. You can be a great hockey player, and still be bad at management.

That last line from Shanny

- Santo_44

Shanny has said time and time again that he wants to stick with the process, believes in the Core 4, over and over, season after season, to the point where even Dubas was talking about a "fine line" between the process and making adjustments, and look who got canned?
