Sounds like Berube has the job if he wants it. In other news, this can’t be the only change. Leafs CANNOT resign Marner with a NTC.
- Bullot

as long as it's an m-ntc but there will a nmc added

If you've watched the series against Boston. There isn't much to ruin here...

I suppose we could start giving up shorties...

We can, and we will.

But seriously though, please no.

The Leafs needed to fire Keefe before this past season.

They needed to see whether or not the "core" could look any different under a different coach/different culture. Then, they could make a more educated decision on
Marner.

Now, they are in a situation where he may simply refuse a trade, or he agrees to a few teams and the Leafs get nowhere near his value in return because he has 1 year until UFA, or he walks for nothing at the end of next season, or they end up over-paying him, which might be the worst result of all.

This is the reason Shanahan should also be gone. There is no "Shanaplan".

True. Habs powerplay coach Alex Burrows manages to do just that.

Pelley leaves him there as next year’s sacrificial lamb. Suits are doing suit things. My guess is that there’s a directive to explore moving Marner now or letting him go next summer. Shanny is a corporate player and knows he can’t afford to get in Treliving’s way.
- Canada Cup

Kinda agree here. Sounds like expected corporate behavior. If there was gonna be a red wedding, Shanahan would have been fired at the same time as Keefe.

So, I am going to nominate a few coaching candidates from off the board : Wendel Clark? Doug Gilmour? Some other smart and respected Leafs alum? Or, wild one here, Mike Keenan?

Or, some recently retired and respected player like Marty St. Louis in Montreal?

I'm not sure just plugging in another retread is going to suffice. The same half dozen names keep getting thrown around. I hope the Leafs go off the board.

I'd like to see Sullivan in TOR. He would probably ruin your PP like he has in PIT, but I think they would be fun to watch at ES at least.
- jfkst1

Dude, the powerplay was clicking at 4-5% in these playoffs.

I had no idea it was possible for professional hockey players to be that bad on the powerplay. You think Sullivan could ruin it?

So remind me what happened to all the "TITS" guys in here...you 'member Trust in the Shannaplan???

You fickle female genitalias!

But moving on, what Fake just posted is spot on. Keefe should've been gone so they could assess the team without that coach before now.

Disagree Galactic. Respectfully.

I think the Leafs need a PROVEN guy. No more (frank)ing around. Get a guy that can coach the talent and the heavy playoff style game.

It's why Quennville's name keeps getting brought up, sucks that there is an issue, but he's the exact type of experience the Leafs need behind the bench.

A couple solid moves on D and solidify the G. Then coach the (frank) out of this squad.

They either hire Berube today and announce him tomorrow or wait and see if the Bod becomes available

Yay Rod can use the Leafs as leverage to get more out of Carolina....then all the good coaches will be gone and the Leafs can hire Jay Woodcroft.

Everyone wins.

I don't know enough hard facts about the Quenneville issue to speak on it. I know the basic gist of it and what the optics are, but my personal feelings about it are undetermined at the moment. I lean against it, just based on the optics and the basic facts that I do know. If it can be determined that he was not involved and had no specific knowledge, then the optics still remain. It's a shame, because he's a good coach, as you said.

I like Brindamour, but I don't think he's going to be easy to get.

How about Barry Melrose or Mike Milbury?

Cooper is a total douchebag, but he's a good coach. I think Tampa could do a lot worse. It would be interesting to see what Cooper could do with this Leafs roster.

Pretty sweet that Keefe gets to rake in the dough for doing nothing over the next 2 years while he figures out his next steps

Bring back Iron Mike

- TheMussel

I haven't read the articles, but what they usually do is kick the guy upstairs as a "special advisor."

That way, if he accepts a new coaching contract, he has to quit (and MLSE can stop paying him).

If he agrees to a "few" teams they'll most likely be top contenders with no desire to add him to their line up. A cool way of saying "I'm not moving"

Marner holds all the cards.

If management doesn't want him, that sucks for everybody. But, if his teammates like him and he has the support of the locker room, then he has more leverage. It would be different if the guy was locker room poison and everybody hated him or wanted him gone also. If his fellow players like him, like playing with him, and think the team is better for having him, then he can stay and there isn't poop management can say about it without going hard and being Richards - which is bad for other reasons.

Either he agrees or he doesn't. Management isn't going to "run him out" unless he wants to be run out.
