Now retire as a Leaf sure he could go somewhere else but I very much think he wants to remain in Toronto and that gives them the upper hand in determining what they will pay him (a rare occurrence in Toronto).

I’m excited about the Leafs future, in the last 12 months we dumped a terribly overrated GM and a coach who was stale. The villainous president is a lame duck. Trade the primadonna entitled winger and we can use the $$ to try to build a proper team.

And even though Willy scored 2 goals to single handedly win the Leafs that was all luck. I mean surely there is no skill in Willy ragging the puck, beating 2 guys and in tight quarters & then being able to get a shot off and through - you know like you need to in playoffs?

I mean we saw Mitch do that in all 7 playoff games this year right?

Marner is not only a supporting cast member, he is a cast member who needs support.

Willy is between a supporting player and a player WHO HAS PROVEN he can be the man and single handedly take over and win a game in the playoffs - when it counts.

Is Willy going to be overpaid? Highly likely many will say so and it may very well be the case depending on the cap increase and more importantly his production but he wasn't overpaid up until now (like MM and sure AM have been) - he was underpaid.

Moving forward you can't afford to overpay everyone - so bye Mitch best of luck unless you want to stay at 10.9M per (and personally even at that I wouldn't give him a full NTC just a 10 team list clause).
