Would you, if you were Vegas, especially knowing you're on tthe short list?
Didn't think so. - jmatchett383
Ok Vegas can go trade for the other Mitch Marner like player available then. Go nuts
Also its a short list? Oh?
If Mitch has proved anything here its money is at the top of his list, if we are speculating and we have to because its all we have, the list will not be short. |

Maybe an asst? - Fakepartofme
I’d be ok with that because he would take over if things go south during the season. |

The Bod likely is not going anywhere.
No sense in waiting and having to settle for a Jay Woodcroft.
There are 2 maybe 3 coaches that are worth a damn...and 2 of them are a big meh. - Santo_44
I dont think he is either, but if the leafs feel they have even just a remote shot. You take it.
But who knows, maybe theyve already spoken to the future coach.
If the canes lose tonight, maybe wait a bit.
We'll see. |

Next year is definitely a holding year.
And to be perfectly honest, I'm OK with that.
FFS, we were absolutely cursed with injuries in the first round, and we still took the Bruins to OT in game 7.
This team is not as bad as people make it out to be.
You think Boston wins that series if they don't have Marchand for 3 games and Pasternak for 2 games and Swayman for game 7? - Atomic Wedgie
Bruins win no matter what. That’s the thing! Bruins find a way to win, Leafs find a way to lose. Bruins have Swayman and if he doesn’t play they have a Vesina guy on the bench in Ulmark, that’s depth. Bruins do anything to win. You see Pasta take on Tkachuk, picture Marner doing that, not happening! Tkachuk punched Marner in the face three times in last years playoffs and he just stood there taking it. No way the Leafs could beat Dallas, Colorado, Florida, Rangers. We can’t afford a goalie, we have to put our faith in an injury prone rookie with less than 35 games in the league. We had the oldest player in the league on D because that’s all we could afford. Hyman had more goals than our entire core. Depth matters, and we have none. Hats off to guys like Knies and Benoit and McCabe, those guys left more on the ice than our core who are making 53% of team cap. Some folks say hey, we took them to game 7 OT. That recipe doesn’t work with this team. Leafs can play with anyone, until it matters, then they fold. The pp folds. We score a big goal and bam, the other team gets it back next shift. Frank we had Marner, an $11mil player, trying his hand on defence this year. We depend too much on the core. Thats my rant!

Gallant can't seem to hold a job down after he gets hired.
Mclelland is OK but he was basically Sheldon Keefe in his time in SJ.
Woodcroft? lol
Boucher? lol
Sullivan? He is not leaving
It is Berube and if you were a betting man I would suggest you bet on it. - Santo_44
Berube wants 5M/yr for 5yrs, how many teams can afford to do this? Not many, Leafs are definitely at the top of his list. |

Strongly disagree. First new coach since Mike Babcock...Get it right and get a good coach.
Don't hold out for the coach that is not available.
MLSE has been down this road before anyways, the 8 year 8M coach isn't worth it. |

I haven't read the articles, but what they usually do is kick the guy upstairs as a "special advisor."
That way, if he accepts a new coaching contract, he has to quit (and MLSE can stop paying him). - Atomic Wedgie
Wouldn't the coach forfeit any pay from previous team the moment he accepts a position with a new team, regardless of being offered another role, or not.
Hard to believe the NHL allows "double dipping"

Don't think they would need to toss in Lilly.
I just wonder about VGK cap situation.
They always figure it out though.
Theo is an offensive D man, they could then sign some Roy, Pesce, Tanev type players. |

NJD seem like a top candidate.
I would bet the leafs snag him though.

They would probably make a settlement - lump payment up front for Keefe to frank off.
But I'm just guessing here. |

Babs and the bod arent the same. At all.
If theres a chsnce the bod doesnt resign with the canes, you wait
Berube is working with biz on their show, he wont rush into a coaching job until he knows the leafs arent an option.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a team get hit with injuries like that in the first round of the playoffs. The people who hate on everything don’t like to acknowledge that because it doesn’t fit the narrative. - shack67
Bruins started their series against Panthers last year minus both 1C and 2C. Might not be exactly comparable but it was a big hit.

Here's what the Hockey News says (and you should take their word over mine):
The Maple Leafs relieved Keefe of his duties before a two-year contract extension was set to begin. The Maple Leafs will continue to pay Keefe through those two years, making a job at the AHL level more appealing for him financially. He would still make an NHL paycheck while working at a lower level.

From what i heard in the past, the minute a coach signs with a new nhl team, he forfeits previous contract. |

Believe it or not, in the Sundin for Clark trade, the Leafs included (because the Nordiques demanded) the rights to Marc Crawford. |

Keefe is young in coaching terms.
Take 7-8 months off and get paid...Get hired by a team in January when a team fires their coach. |

Has a coach ever been traded in the NHL?
Once, in 1987 the Nordiques traded their coach Michel Bergeron for the Rangers 1988 first and cash
Leafs will trade for Sullivan in exchange for their 1st (2024) and $67 Cdn dollars |
