Small skilled guys are useful for regular season play, they still need someone to support them, Marner, Reaves...both become irrelevant in todays playoffs.

You guys all hate on Reaves and goons, while going Adams deep the other way, which will, and is failing.

Why does that logic not apply to small skilled guys, that can't throw the weight around when needed?
- washedup20

I think you're confusing toughness with high-compete. And you're definitely confusing regular season hockey with playoff hockey.

90% of these players that are finishing their checks with reckless abandon the past couple weeks definitely do not do that in the regular season.

Again, I'm mostly agreeing with you. We need some gritty, high-compete, yet SKILLED (key word here) players who can skate added to this team.

They also need an addition to their top 6. This player does NOT need to be Brady Tkachuk for us to win games. Guentzel or Stephenson would make me very happy.

They need to fix the bottom 6, too. I've said it before, I like Jenner, Laughton, etc, Bennett would be great.

you guys were beating your chest that he was going to be a calder finalist

he was far from that type of player

he didn't move the needle for me

You guys have lost the (frank)ing plot for sure.

Of the top 20 rookies, 4 were from the 2023 Draft Class.
Benton finished 2nd out of that class, after having been drafted at 13.
The other 3 players from 2023 were drafted 1, 2, 3.

(frank) that narrative you're pushing... You are sounding like Washed

What happened to the players drafted 4 - 12?

It's an interesting, and hopeful thought. None of those players (Bennett maybe) puts fans in the stands, or have proven they can carry a team.

I don't think the solution to a roster filled with middle of the road players is more....middle of the road players.

They are being handled like Rosen, the home run pick...not to be mistaken with the steal of the draft pick.

Benson really is the last person we need to Worry about. Adams needs to find 3 or 4 Complimentary players that can add things in there own way. Be it scoring, grit, Defense. Coaching will help, but they Need a Bona-fide Leader and IMO he's not here yet.

I think a top 6 of Tage, Tuch, Cozens, JJ, Quinn and ??? under the leadership of Lindy does work.

Adding a couple players like I mentioned (among others) to the 3rd line, imo, helps you with the small details to win games (faceoffs, grit, leadership, etc).

Feels like they have 5 guys slated as 3LW. Benson is one of them. Still a big question of how this fits together under Lindy and what they do this summer. The plan was not Skinner sliding down to 3LW this year. That was clearly planned for these kids.

That's the hopeful approach to the offseason, it would definitely help. I think with the over commitment to small skilled players requires and over correction the other way by plugging in a goon to calm the boys down and let them focus.

Dudes,

Bills on 1st Amazon Prime game of the year @ the Phins. Doesn't seem like an as heavy lift to play on Thursdee that early in the year. Been a lot of speculation they're going to be playing on Christmas. If you play on Christmas, you also play on the Saturdee before. Like the Saturdee game, not a fan of 4 days between games.

How we feelin about MVS? Puhhhhretty Gruesome?

Those are much better talking points than where his birthday falls.

Getting more PP time and a better opportunity are not givens. If he earns it and produces, that would be great. He should have more competition this year.

There is a reason pNHLe takes into account where a birthday falls.

There's many different version of 'the best kind of player'. The one most effective in the playoffs is skilled, smart and hard to play against. That player could be Nate MacKinnon, Valeri Nuchuskin, Sasha Barkov, Matt Tkachuk, Brad Marchand or Jason Robertson.

They're not all tuff. But they're hard as (frank) to play against

Peterka
Tuch
Quinn
Skinner?
"Top 6 forward" as stated by Cuck
Benson

Do bottom 6 wingers like, I don't know, Will Carrier, are they considered "better"?

tuch is a 1st liner

skinner and peterka is probably 2nd liners in a perfect world

quinn x factor given injuries

and a lot of 3rd liners

good cap wise if your centers and d are playing up to potential

d needs to be much better

tage and cozens needs to be more consistent

who knows what on that third line center

they were trying quinn at center in rochester, perhaps that gets revisited this fall

also Linday was talking about faceoff wins being important, maybe tage goes to the wing and they make a move for a center

lots of options, if adams is willing to make moves

Cuck's hardline statement of "win now" (repeated several times) would dissuade me of thinking any of those prospects force their way here. He's very interested in building an "abrasive" bottom 6 and that group aint it. I think he buys/trades for that top 6 forward.

While I definitely think it's possible Benson is not a top 6F in terms of Today Skill by 10/10, I don't think any other prospect is here to start. I'd be impressed if even one started here.

Sounds like the 11OA is in play. I think they'll add up front. Hopefully it's for players that move the needle and allows Lindy to slot players in their proper places. We'll find out in the next few months.
