Lou tried that with Engvall and we see how that turned out. - PeteM
Ehh I wouldn't quite equate those two players but I get what you're saying. I don't think anyone ever said that Engvall had the potential to score 30. He was always a soft middle-6 winger who's biggest asset is his speed.
Regardless, the fact that we've been debating a trade that has a 0% chance of happening for 4 days now is a depressing reality of the offseason |

It would be nice to get some assistant coaching news at least.

I don't expect to hear anything out of the Isles until after someone lifts the Cup |

Very likely chief. We know how easily the Islanders can upstage the rest of the league.

Anyone but the Rangers. Preferably not the Canes either, but I don't care as long as it's not the Rangers. I like the Stars chances a lot though. |

After some Googling, it looks like he's 25, 6'3, and had a 30 goals in the KHL this past season (not too much popping out in the stat department before that). Seems like a few teams had him on their radar. |

He was fourth in the league in goals, so I guess that's notable |

Some size, too, which is never a bad thing. And no real risk at all with a one-year ELC. |

This is the exact kind of move I've been wanting for a long time. It's a zero-risk signing. If he stinks you mutually terminate and let him go back to Russia, don't re-sign him, or trade him. There's no downside. Great move by Lou.

Sounds like there was a good number of teams after him, including the Rangers |

Yep! These are the type of moves you make instead of giving out deals like Pierre. Same with NHL UFA's. Look for players you can sign on 1-year deals.

Im a fan of moves like this. Could be a cheap contributor. Never know maybe we hit on this guy. No risk. |

Quick rundown on Maxim Tsyplakov:
- 25yo
- speedy
- positionally sound
- able to play all 3 positions, best fit as LW/RW
- big body (6-3/200)
- frequent shooter (2.42 Sh/Gp, 2Y average)
- hits a lot (2.06 Hit/Gp, 2Y average)
- plays all situations (5v5, PP, PK roles)
- most probably a bottom-6 power forward role
Likely will compete with guys like Holmy, Fasching and Engvall for time. Perhaps bolstering the fourth line at worst |

Still always get pumped for these Russian players. They donโt usually pan out for us but maybe this is the one. |

Engvall reminds me of the ice hockey video game that had the fat guy who could only check, the average guy who could score, and the tall skinny guy (Engvall) that could on skate fast. Blades of Steel.

That's not "Blades of Steel"! That's "Ice Hockey."
The best was picking a whole team of skinny guys and watching them get knocked all over the place for the whole game.
For the record, Blades of Steel is:
