I hate the Bruins, but that punch has to be suspension unless the league wants escalated retaliation. Which perhaps they do.
Swayman has been great. The centers on Boston are getting annihilated almost every shift. Florida has been dominating play almost every period. - jfkst1
Coyle's a nice player but he's a 3C. Zacha is a (frank)ing bust. Wish Haula was still on the team. Absolute downgrade. This was the price of 1 more year with Krejci and Bergeron.

Hope Zadorov lays out McD next game. Then he gets suspended rest of playoffs and signs with Leafs. - Bullot
Leafs can’t afford him… they’d have to trade Marner, but they’re going to have to eat some cap… so they won’t have wiggle room to sign a guy like Big Z. |

Marchand is what he is there is no denying that. Anyone who does is deluded. Bennett is no Lady Byng candidate himself. Last time I checked though punching a guy in the head is still against the rules. It would be better if there weren't reputation based calls and they just enforced the rules correctly. It's one the reasons the NHL is still a bush league.
This crying about the refs stuff is total crap though. The Bruins lost and are losing because the roster is deficient at every position except in net and it has been exposed for the second series now.
Toronto beat themselves.
Panthers in 5. - glove_was_stuck
The job that Montgomery has done the last two regular seasons with the roster he's been given is nearly miraculous. And I'm guessing he's going to take a bunch of crap for not repeating the same miracles in the playoffs if Florida finishes the Bruins off. I don't even think we can even be absolutely sure at this point sure if Swayman is an elite goalie. Montgomery is an elite head coach and it's terrifying to think what he'd do with a really talented team - unlike this one or the Dallas team that came one OT goal short of derailing the Blues' championship run.

Sam Reinhart (the league's second leading scorer) was knocked out of the game on a play where he didn't possess the puck and hadn't even touched it. I'm surprised no one seems to be talking about that. - FoppaForever
Reinhart and Guentzel were two of the top 5 UFA centers available. If his injury is serious that thins out the crop of centers.

Reinhart left the game after he took a puck in face at the blue paint and left blood all over the ice. Nothing to do with the hit. |

WSH is the only playoff team I can think of that had weaker centers than BOS. BOS just desperately needed a center upgrade. Shouldn't have entered the postseason without someone else added. No guarantees they'll have the leagues best goaltending again. |

No hearing for Bennett because he didn't "sucker punch" Marchand. Marchand launched himself into Bennett, who just returned 5 minutes earlier from a hand injury, after missing 5 games. Marchand missed the target and hit the boards. Marchand is the one with intent to injure.
On the bench after that hit, they were checking his shoulder after he hit the boards. He played for another 2 periods during which he hit Stenlund head to head; that's the hit that should be reviewed and disciplined. That's the hit that caused concussion protocol. - JimboCoppertone
It was a fist to the jaw.
The fact there was no hearing proves nothing - the league gets things wrong all the time.

What will happen with Laviolette if the NYR lose 2 more games to the Canes? Will Brind’Amour be offered the Rangers job?

Ek said the Canes seemed on the verge of being swept and had little chance to come back.
Even though anyone watching could see that the games were extremely close and NYR was pretty fortunate to win 3 close games. |

Agreed a bit early for that, but I think the body of work is enough where trading Ullmark in the offseason is a must. Last season they pushed all chips to the table for the run and came up way short. Krejci and Bergeron's contracts were bonus laden and counted against this years cap. They had somewhere around 6 mil (guestimate) in dead cap which hurts. No 1st or 2nd rounders to try and swing deals.
Great run for a bridge team. I think it absolutely has to be the Montgomery effect. Just the one criticism I have is he juggles the lines and D pairs when things are working. Hopefully he learns from that.

With what? The lack of assets and cap space is why they're a bridge team.

They tried with LA was the rumor. Ullmark blocked the trade. I agree something needed to be added but again, no assets to really work with.

If Boston is this weak at center they should review Ek's list and address in free agency. Guentzel is a great option. Or Teravainen. Reinhart might just stay in Florida but Marchessault is a good option.
