I'd say it's 99/1 that JT is here and it's 50/50 on MM.

Bingo! Maybe 60/40 Mitch is still here.

Maybe this team was never really that good.

Have they won the Atlantic, let alone the Conference or President's Trophy, since the Core 4 era?

Hint: they haven't. Best they did was 1st in "Scotia North" in the bubble season. Never the best in their division, no better than 4th overall:

Big job ahead of them, with the only saving grace being that Boston and Tampa are both in rapid decline and have a rebuild/retool ahead of them.

Still, that may only skew the optics and make them look better than they really are, assuming we don't implode next year.

(frank) I hate this team.

Canada was up 6-1 in the 3rd to Austria

It’s 6-6 lol

Binnington got destroyed

Tavares scores in OT. 7-6.

Just avoided being on the other end of the best comeback in world championship history.

They've never been the dominant team in the league, but they have been in the conversation. We've seen the problems the team has in net and on the back-end and as long as nothing was done to patch that up, it's hard to see tangible progress being made.

In 2022-23 they placed 4th in the league with a .677% - same as eventual Cup winner, Vegas. Boston, Carolina and Jersey all placed ahead of them - and they were all gone by the conclusion of the 2nd round as well.

In 2021-22 they placed 4th in the league with a .701% - behind Florida, cup winner Colorado and Carolina. Florida and Carolina were eliminated in the 2nd round.

I don't like looking a the COVID years simply because they aren't an appropriate apples-to-apples comparison - but in the 2020-21 COVID season they were 7th with a .688% - behind Vegas, Colorado, Carolina, Florida, Washington and Pittsburgh. Tampa, who would win the cup, was the 8th placed team. Washington, Pittsburgh, Florida and Toronto all lost in the first round. Colorado and Carolina in the 2nd.

In the shortened 2019-20 season, the first of this roster's Lightning cups, the Leafs were 11th with a .579% - tied with Columbus, who would eliminate them in the first round. It should be noted that the president's trophy was won by Boston with Tampa in 4th, behind St. Louis and Colorado.

This year they were 10th with a .622% - and outside of the 4th placed Jets falling in the first round to Colorado, 7 of the 8 top teams moved on from the first round. As it stands right _now_ the favourites by regular season standings are all leading in their 2nd round series - which is definitely unusual.

I think the movement down is as good an indicator that it was time for Keefe to go as any. Even if he is a great coach, which I don't personally think he is, I think his message was no longer being heard.

And as many have surmised, change is needed to the approach and structure.

Considering how many people in here kept saying they didn't GAS about regular season stuff at all and only playoffs mattered who really cares where they finish as long as it's in a playoff spot?

Also - when do we start talking about Charlie Elick?

Obviously the Leafs pick at 23. He's the type of player that will force Skalapy to buy his jersey and put his poster up on his ceiling above his bed.

They have never been an "elite" club in the Core 4 era.
