It's an undeniable fact that he knew about the sexual assault and didn't want it to be a distraction to his team. That's a pretty valid reason to be against him. - Squeaky
It's a deniable fact. You know why? Because he wasn't present when it happened.
He spoke about it recently and said he didn't know what actually happened, only that there was an accusation of inappropriate behavior.
He talked to upper management briefly and the guys above him (the ones with more information and more responsibility) didn't do their job.
Quenneville should have followed up and asked more questions about what was going on (which he admitted he regrets) and has been away from the NHL for awhile. He deserves a 2nd chance.
The undeniable fact is that he's the best possible candidate for what the Leafs need and they would absolutely be stupid moron idiots as an organization to not hire him if their desire is to win a Stanley Cup.
But if they want to continue to lose in the playoffs every year, they can go after the loser coaches out there like Todd McLellan and keep apologizing to the fans who they keep bending over every season and saying sorry after the 1st round.

Auston Matthews needs to grow a pair and look in a mirror. The guy is 6'3 and 210 or more. - Monkeypunk
I think the Leafs roster is poorly constructed and the coaching is so bad that they wear out their best players during the regular season.
The way Nylander was playing at the end of the season (trying to get 100 points) and Matthews was gunning for 70 goals, it totally took over what they team was doing and thinking about for 2 weeks.
What they should have been doing is dialing back their playing time, work on the PP and work on the PK and make sure it's running well for the playoffs.
Looking at the ice time among the top NHL forwards, Marner and Matthews are at 21+ minutes per game. There are very few other players with that much ice time per game. Rantanen, MacKinnon, Nichushkin from Colorado are up there and they look worn out right now against Dallas. Probably a decent explanation why Nichushkin popped hot for some kind of drugs. The only other guy still left in the playoffs is McDavid and he's only had 2 goals this playoffs (trade him, he sucks?).
I think the Leafs need to really consider getting Matthews and Marner down to Nylander level of ice time over the season and leave some gas in the tank for the playoffs. Nylander averages 19 min a game over a season. Maybe getting easier match-ups plus having more gas in the tank helps his playoff runs whereas the other two are running on fumes too early in the playoffs.
That's how guys get injured, sick and fatigued when the games matter the most and that's exactly what looked like happened to them after a season of chasing personal stats instead of focusing on team goals. And I blame the coach for allowing it to occur. |

I thought this was a better breakdown of the clutch playoff performances from our players.
I've defined an elimination game as the any game where either team has a chance to end the series.
All Time as a Leaf in an Elimination game:
Nylander: 19GP: 8G-8A - 16Pts; 0.84 PPG
Matthews: 17GP: 5G-7A - 12Pts; 0.71 PPG
Marner: 19GP: 2G-10A - 12Pts; 0.63 PPG
Tavares: 13GP: 5G-3A - 8Pts; 0.62 PPG
As a Leaf in an Elimination game since 2020:
Nylander: 13GP: 7G-5A - 12Pts; 0.92 PPG
Matthews: 11GP: 3G-6A - 9Pts; 0.82 PPG
Tavares: 10GP: 4G-3A - 7Pts; 0.7 PPG
Marner: 13GP: 1G-7A - 8Pts; 0.62 PPG
As a Leaf in Game 5:
Tavares: 5GP: 1G-5A - 6Pts; 1.2 PPG
Nylander: 6GP: 2G-4A - 6Pts; 1 PPG
Marner: 6GP: 0G-4A - 4Pts; 0.67 PPG
Matthews: 5GP: 2G-1A - 3Pts; 0.6 PPG
As a Leaf in Game 6:
Tavares: 3GP: 3G-0A - 3Pts; 1 PPG
Nylander: 4GP: 2G-2A - 4Pts; 1 PPG
Matthews: 3GP: 2G-0A - 2Pts; 0.67 PPG
Marner: 4GP: 0G-0A - 0Pts; 0 PPG
As a Leaf in Game 7:
Matthews: 3GP: 0G-3A - 3Pts; 1 PPG
Nylander: 3GP: 2G-0A - 2Pts; 0.67 PPG
Marner: 3GP: 0G-1A - 1Pts; 0.33 PPG
Tavares: 2GP: 0G-0A - 0Pts; 0 PPG
As a Leaf in Games 1-3 Since 2020:
Matthews: 18GP: 6G-15A - 21Pts; 1.17 PPG
Marner: 18GP: 4G-16A - 20Pts; 1.11 PPG
Nylander: 15GP: 6G-5A - 11Pts; 0.73 PPG
Tavares: 16GP: 5G-2A - 7Pts; 0.44 PPG
Usually off the top, especially in round 1, teams are looser - and in games 1-3 guys who take advantage of space - like Marner and Matthews - really excel. The problem is that it becomes more evident that they aren't necessarily ramping that effort up when the defense gets tighter. I will be honest and say that I can see that with a guy like Marner because he's smaller and the Leafs have done nothing to give him some size to insulate against that. I'll also note that Guentzel is the same size and seems to fight through it a bit better. Auston Matthews needs to grow a pair and look in a mirror. The guy is 6'3 and 210 or more. - Monkeypunk
He plays like he's 6'3 210 though. He was right there with Benoit for most hits per game in the playoffs. Multiple big hits. He doesn't shy away from the contact whatsoever. I'm not sure "growing a set" and using his size is the issue. |

But he goes from scoring 69 goals to scoring 1 goal, missing games when it matters and is set to become the highest paid player in the NHL.
If we needed him to just throw hits, we'd put Reaves on the ice and call it a day.
And that's the problem in Toronto. People want Wendel Clark. But that's not what our "star" players are anymore. |
