The highest paid guy I can think of with those parameters is Zaitsev @ $4.5m and that contract was a massive mistake. Noting that when Zaitsev was given his deal he was playing 22 minutes.

For the most part Zadorov is deployed similarly to Schenn, and while Schenn is older, the deployment of him hasn't exceed 18 minutes of TOI on average since 2017 (18:03).

But it is irrelevant to the Leafs. He can't handle it here and he dug himself a hole mentally.

He’s the odd man out who doesn’t produce in the key moments year over year in the playoffs and the one creeping up to being a UFA so he is the one who should be gone from the core. That is unless he is willing to do what everyone believes JT will do which is take a massive salary cut to stay - but even if Marner wanted to it’s unlikely Paul allows him to.

Marner at 6.9 M as a prove it deal would be great - call it the Willy deal and then he can come back and demand over 11M. Lol

They're probably all mistakes (welcome to July 1st) ..so I'm not sure we can use that as a qualifier.

I agree Zadarov is a 4/5 type more than a clear top 4 guy so he's probably a Chariot on that list. Schenn had a bit of a second coming after being a 6/7 guy for a few years so I don't think that's a fair comparable.

Ultimately I'd say he gets some offers between $4M and $5M and he'll get to choose whether he wants the most coin or the takes a little less to get whatever else he wants (lifestyle, winning, etc...).

That was rubbish. Some goofy talking heads rumoured that into existence but the Calgary folks, including Conroy, had nothing but great things to say about Tree. After the dust settled on the Zadarov to Vancity trade Johnston reported that the Leafs needed Calgary to retain (Leafs were tight on space) and Calgary didn't want to b/c they wanted to hold onto their salary retention spots for the deadline.

DV is such an easy player to root for. i was out front of this saying...its not a 1 year trade. need to give it time to play out. Hope he keeps it going, I think there is room for more improvement with the Bat
