Congrats to Yager, his team swept the finals to win the WHL championship. From Haase:
Yager finished the WHL playoffs with 11 goals and 16 assists in 24 games. His 27 points ranked third in postseason scoring, trailing only his teammates Jagger Firkus (31) and Denton Mateychuk (30).
Yager, the Penguins' first-round pick in 2023, recorded 35 goals and 60 assists in 57 regular-season games, tied for 14th in the league in scoring. |

Those two were his line mates right? My only pause on Yager right now is that he was third best on a stacked line so it’s possible he got carried to higher numbers than his actual potential. Great season though. Can’t complain about that output for a mid-low first round pick any way you dice it
EDIT: looked at the season totals and Firkus lead the league in points but is a year older and Jagger finished several spots ahead of Mateychuck who was the 12th overall pick. I’m happy with that. |

Looking forward to Grinder’s account in five years about how the Rempe lead rangers swept the Canes en rout to a cup. |

Mateychuk is a defenseman. They did have another similar high scorer not sure about the lines. Yager I think is the only one of those four returning, so will be interesting to watch next year to see what his numbers are.
I did want to see him get at least 30, but really 40, so 35 while missing 11 games I'm happy with. |

Firkus was his linemate and WHL player of the year. They were stacked compared to Portland. Hoping Danielson joins GR for the playoff run. |

I think everyone wanted Miller. You were probably the only one speaking up a lot about wanting Boeser...then there's Sam Bennett....when he was being used as bottom 6 in Calgary, and not doing all that much, you and I were the only ones that wanted to try to obtain him...and at that point in time it was probably possible. Sigh.

That right hook by Bennett was pure gold. Just a sneaky great play. |

Canes roster is going to be drastically different. They have like 12 plus UFAs. RFAs |

Yeah, its just insane to get a natural hat trick in the 3rd period of an elimination game and the 3rd of the hat trick be the game winner/series clincher....has that ever happened in history before?...

Really it’s just Carolina proving hockey doesn’t belong in the south. |

Yeah Florida got him for the equivalent of 2 2nds. It’s worked out very well for them. |

I remember the deadline where the rumors coming from inside the organization is that we were trying a 4 team trade that deadline to bring in both Boeser and Miller. They were going to trade Pettersson, this years 1st, Rutta, POJ, Zucker and a few prospects from what I remember. I don't think they could make the money work (we wanted them to retain on Miller, but they wouldn't). Even though we would have lost Pettersson. Gaining Boeser and Miller would have been solid. We would have had to get a LHD that deadline or this past offseason. Karlsson deal definitely wouldn't have happened. |

hahah Tampa might have something to say about that. It's crazy, the Canes looked to be in total control and a game 7 was definitely coming...

Oh that’s just a joke. But Carolina just seems to be a team that can’t figure out how to get over the hump in the playoffs. |

Yeah, its crazy. Andersen was a bit weak last night IMO. That first Kreider goal shouldn't happen. 5 goals on 23 shots for a 0.836 SV% isn't gonna cut it...Canes hit a load of posts...that one Jake rang off the post then it hit off Shesterkin's back and then back off a post again haha...just horrible luck there....or good luck if your a Ranger/Ranger fan. |

Brinds system just isnt made for playoff hockey. You cant just grind your way through 16 wins and you have to get goaltending. Even with Guentzel, who played great, they got no further |
