Name them.

Hint: if you look at the list I provided, some aren't listed because the guys aren't old enough yet. If you click on their names and look at their actual contracts, the NMCs kick in later.

- Atomic Wedgie

First name I clicked on was Nick Suzuki. He makes a million more than what Nylander made. He has a modified NTC. Not a NMC.

Yep, time to grab the cane.
And you just inspired me to put on this album:

Awful album, but track 5 seems appropriate to what you're responding to.

Nylander did not have a NMC in his last contract. They put it on after he had resigned.

And Matthews is a top-5 player in the league. You stating that you wouldn't give him a NMC is silly. It's a non-starter.

- Atomic Wedgie

I agree re. Matthews. It's the others that have handcuffed the team to where they are now at the whim of four players.

That's piss poor management.

He signed that contract at age 22, coming off an entry-level contract.

So in fact he has more trade protection than Nylander's second contract.

Thank you for proving my point.

Wes clark.

But i guess Tre would have had final approval

- Fakepartofme

IIRC Treliving said at the time that he had not had the time to review all of the details and left the drafting up to Wes Clark. I guess he'd have had some sort of final approval - unless his original thing to Wes was just one those, "Go. Be. Do." and let him loose on the draft with our plethora of 3 picks.

I guess you could argue that Dubas gets credited for hiring Clark and working with him to set the parameters for how they identify key players.

But in 2-3 years time when we're looking at drafting histories, it'll be Treliving's draft.

I can't remember if it was true for Treliving, but sometimes when a GM is hired away from another team, he's not allowed to participate in the draft.

I don't know when his contract would have expired in Calgary, but in theory it would run to June 30th.

i think he couldnt be at the table until Calgary made their pick.
But Im not sure how involved he could be in the draft, thats worked on for months.

if Cowan pans out as an NHL player...im sure it will stick to Brad Tree

Hope you have better luck than I did with BB. 60% of y feminized seeds, weren't, and one of the ladies grew balls later.

The 'real' ladies grow very nicely in southern ON though

I think the real argument isn't what they got ($$/NMC) ...it's that they were paid/kept and built around as opposed to building this thing differently (ie. spending on a goalie and defencemen).

But you 100% know there will be Dubas die hards that'll argue till they're blue in the face that it was Dubas' pick. Leaf fans can never agree on anything.

Let's be honest, it's going to take a little time to rebuild this team to take it in a new direction. That being said, I'm surprised with what Tree has been able to do in a limited amount of time. The Leafs are a much tougher team to play against than they were last year. Next year is likely going to be limited changes, but 2025 is when big things happen.
