you can't think about as the "real dollars"
you need to think cap hit! that's what is important but you want to skim over that part with blinders on.
so the "real money" has some effect but not much. - dmnted
Both are important. Pretty obvious.
It’s why the Clarkson trade happened, because CBJ is a franchise that really values actual dollars.
It’s why Ottawa backloads their contracts.
It’s not hard to see that actual dollars matter as well as the cap hit, it’s a (frank)ing business.
So yes, dealing Marner at a 775K is a big deal to many owners. |

I heard talk about Berube yesterday on Sportsnet 590 and his likely PP assistant coach being Marc Savard. Apparently he is a highly regarded PP coach. He certainly had great offensive instincts as a player. |

What Bukala said about Cowan is that unlike Marner who avoids contact, Cowan actually challenges contact and drives through it. - fifty__missions
Just needs to work on his neck thickness this summer. 5 11" 200 should be the goal. |

it can be to teams who do not spend to the cap.
But generally bottom teams or rebuilding teams..not looking to add a player like Marner, or not a team Marner would want to go to at his point. |

Most teams in the NHL are conscious of it money.
Again it’s a business.

Chicago seems like a team that may have a spot for Marner. lots of cap space, probably looking to start to improve.
I just dont see anything they have that id want back. maybe a few 1sts and a good prospect. But thats just a huge coin flip of getting anything back |

teams at start of rebuild tend to trade away first rounders and prospects |

once you get a Bedard its time to start surrounding him with support.
its very unlikely any of the picks they have turn out to be a player as good a Marner.
but that also applies to the team taking the picks for Marner |

With there being only 31 teams not named Toronto I bet we could pretty quickly, and accurately, guestimate a hypothetical list of team(s) that would make some sense (for the purposes of speculation).
Here's my best guess at a hypothetical 6 team list ...
Nashville, Carolina, St Louis, Dallas, Kings and Avs (depending on Landoskog and Nicushkin's outcome).
A chance to win, lifestyle, and teams with the ability to sign him to the extension and with decent contracts/futures to send back to T.O..

If we're going to get anything back worth having, (not a salary dump), we'll likely have to retain. - Whipper
Which is why I keep suggesting
PLD 25% retained and RHD cost controlled Clarke for Marner.
One project player for another but one with much higher value with regular season points so you get the young Dman.
LA would be a great team with Marner. Leafs would be a great team without.
PLD with the right coach will slot in nicely as a 2D in place of JT.
Clarke is supposed to be everything we need for an amazing RHD prospect.
Marner the multi millionaire gets to live in LA without the spot light.
Leafs get Cap space for a goalie and another D man for next season.
When JT is done and the Cap space goes up even more the Leafs will have a ton of space to round out the team in a great way instead of struggling due to Marner's next greedy deal
And the Leafs could even do a sign and trade to get more in the deal.

Treeliving told us (when he signed Willie) that he had discussions last summer about 88 and that he wasn't getting offers of equal value (a high end blue liner) back so he declined.
I imagine that this summer he's a little less demanding if, in fact, they want to make a significant change. - The Law
They arent giving marner away.

I know a cop that worked his carjacking case. Every question he got asked was I dunno, ask my dad. Like, literally, where is your insurance? Ask my dad.
There are more/worse stories.

PLD has such negative value, i think they would have to add decent stuff to get rid of him.
and Clarke for Marner does feel like enough. 100 point winger for a prospect. id want a little more.
