Which is why I keep suggesting
PLD 25% retained and RHD cost controlled Clarke for Marner.
One project player for another but one with much higher value with regular season points so you get the young Dman.
LA would be a great team with Marner. Leafs would be a great team without.
PLD with the right coach will slot in nicely as a 2D in place of JT.
Clarke is supposed to be everything we need for an amazing RHD prospect.
Marner the multi millionaire gets to live in LA without the spot light.
Leafs get Cap space for a goalie and another D man for next season.
When JT is done and the Cap space goes up even more the Leafs will have a ton of space to round out the team in a great way instead of struggling due to Marner's next greedy deal
And the Leafs could even do a sign and trade to get more in the deal.
Cup 25/26! - underhill14
Sorry, leafs dont need any project players or any other forward over 5/6m thats isnt worth every penny. Pld is not worth the effort. The leafs arent taking a salary dump for marner, that would be dumb imo.
Id do kempe and clarke for marner |

You have to stop with the PLD bullcrap. "The right coach"? This guy has been coached by Tortorella, Maurice, Lowry, Bowness, McLellan and Hiller. He's had moments of decentness in there but he's never consistent. PLD doesn't care about anyone but PLD and every team he goes to doesn't like him.
Simply: No. I don't give a poop if he's 11 foot 14. (frank). That. Guy.
The other basic problem with PLD is that he's paid $8.5m on the cap. Trading Marner's $10.9m contract because we are too top heavy and replacing it by only $2.4m - especially for a guy like PLD who (frank)ing sucks I will reiterate - it doesn't help us on the back end where we really need it.

I know a cop that worked his carjacking case. Every question he got asked was I dunno, ask my dad. Like, literally, where is your insurance? Ask my dad.
There are more/worse stories. - Whipper
So he was carjacked at gun point (from what i recall) and didnt have all the answers to questions post situation. Seems normal for somewhat that may be rattled.
Now, he still may be an airhead, but i doubt his dad is as much of an influence as he once was. |

From what I have heard, it's not just his dad.
He's surrounded himself with handlers, and those handlers are complete toolbags. |

Like I said, there are more stories. And it wasn't just immediately after the carjacking. That would be understandable in the heat of the moment.
I hope you're right, he's dad seems like a real POS, hopefully this contract negotiation doesn't go like the last. |

With there being only 31 teams not named Toronto I bet we could pretty quickly, and accurately, guestimate a hypothetical list of team(s) that would make some sense (for the purposes of speculation).
Here's my best guess at a hypothetical 6 team list ...
Nashville, Carolina, St Louis, Dallas, Kings and Avs (depending on Landoskog and Nicushkin's outcome).
A chance to win, lifestyle, and teams with the ability to sign him to the extension and with decent contracts/futures to send back to T.O.. - The Law

Vegas.
Hertl and theodore for marner....add in lili of need be.
Vegas might not have room for theodore
This give vegas an extra million in cap space and the leafs could move out timmins |

PLD has such negative value, i think they would have to add decent stuff to get rid of him.
and Clarke for Marner does feel like enough. 100 point winger for a prospect. id want a little more. - senstroll
Fair. But I think LA has the pieces and a good deal could be made.
Also from Marchand's own mouth:

Which team best describes the Leafs and wonder why Marner is so chicken shiite? |

I could see Utah being prepared to throw big $s at him to help create some buzz and that has a poop load of picks to spend. The winning part is a big question mark but the owner apparently knows what he’s doing and could use him to help market the team. Long shot since there’s no history but Mitch might like being THE GUY. |

Agreed, PLD is a garbage player and a cancer and will likely be out of the league. One of those palyers that has all the tools and can't get out of his own way..
Hard pass on any trade that brings PLD to the Leafs regardless of the package.

The other aspect there is he's not in an intense fishbowl. Something that he seems to really have the issue with given he cherrypicks when and who he talks to in the media.
The big question is what he thinks. Nobody knows his outlook. IF he wants to move he will work with the team. Colorado is an interesting possible too and he might see the appeal. I do think Nashville makes sense centering around Saros. If Leafs want picks/prospects Chicago, Seattle, Utah make some sense.
First things first gotta deal with the coach. Then can start shaping roster changes.
Way too many question marks and only speculation at this point. |

They have a lot of picks and prospects I'd be interested in too.
I'll take the 6'7'' D Man who can skate for starters. |
