correct and the Leafs keep their assets.
Losing Marner will hurt the Leafs cause he a good regular season player but disappears when the going get tough and when they count him for offence which wilts with said pressure - dmnted
Marner has more career playoff points than Matthews and Nylander.
This "playoff disappearance" narrative is tiresome and false.
If Marner goes for the playoff failure then so does Matthews with his 1 playoff goal. |

Like Anaheim going to help the Leafs out, A high draft pick (nothing less than 2nd round pick) or GTO - dmnted
What you refuse to realize is that there are deals where both teams are helping each other out.

Noting that when the series tightens up, Marner is heavily affected - it's a pretty easy comparison here because we've almost never been out of the first round. You know that in the later part of the series teams are tightening up the D. And some Leafs are really choking on it.
All Time as a Leaf in an Elimination game:
Nylander: 19GP: 8G-8A - 16Pts; 0.84 PPG
Matthews: 17GP: 5G-7A - 12Pts; 0.71 PPG
Marner: 19GP: 2G-10A - 12Pts; 0.63 PPG
Tavares: 13GP: 5G-3A - 8Pts; 0.62 PPG
As a Leaf in an Elimination game since 2020:
Nylander: 13GP: 7G-5A - 12Pts; 0.92 PPG
Matthews: 11GP: 3G-6A - 9Pts; 0.82 PPG
Tavares: 10GP: 4G-3A - 7Pts; 0.7 PPG
Marner: 13GP: 1G-7A - 8Pts; 0.62 PPG
As a Leaf in Game 5:
Tavares: 5GP: 1G-5A - 6Pts; 1.2 PPG
Nylander: 6GP: 2G-4A - 6Pts; 1 PPG
Marner: 6GP: 0G-4A - 4Pts; 0.67 PPG
Matthews: 5GP: 2G-1A - 3Pts; 0.6 PPG
As a Leaf in Game 6:
Tavares: 3GP: 3G-0A - 3Pts; 1 PPG
Nylander: 4GP: 2G-2A - 4Pts; 1 PPG
Matthews: 3GP: 2G-0A - 2Pts; 0.67 PPG
Marner: 4GP: 0G-0A - 0Pts; 0 PPG
As a Leaf in Game 7:
Matthews: 3GP: 0G-3A - 3Pts; 1 PPG
Nylander: 3GP: 2G-0A - 2Pts; 0.67 PPG
Marner: 3GP: 0G-1A - 1Pts; 0.33 PPG
Tavares: 2GP: 0G-0A - 0Pts; 0 PPG
As a Leaf in Games 1-3 Since 2020:
Matthews: 18GP: 6G-15A - 21Pts; 1.17 PPG
Marner: 18GP: 4G-16A - 20Pts; 1.11 PPG
Nylander: 15GP: 6G-5A - 11Pts; 0.73 PPG

Also have to keep in mind that Matthews and Marner are usually playing against top shutdown lines and defenders. Nylander and Tavares have usually had easier match-ups.

$775K but yes.
I don’t think $ in the millions is all that much to leaf ownership who are all billionaires however. If they want to do it money is a non issue. It’s do they want to or not. - Dozzer

Dude you aren't even worth explaining to, stop proving your name to be true.
It is simple grade school math.
It is a big number I know.

775,000

I think the 8th year is a bit overemphasized. If he can get an extra $1M-1.5M/year in free agency, he’s down anywhere from $1.5M to $5M over the contract. I know I wouldn’t work an extra year for a measly extra million and a half. - Canada Cup

It’s not their financial power. The majority of it is money owned by companies who have investors who don’t give a rat’s ass about hockey.
But you do you as well. |

"the organization’s reputation would be mud. Good luck getting another big-name free agent to ever sign with the Leafs again for anything less than an overpayment."
from an outside perspective I think that is BS. Players will go where they want. Really do not think that will hinder any top level players if they "force" him to waive. |

So fork out $10 mill owned by companies owned by people who don’t care about hockey (about 40% of Canadians, including children) on July 1st to Marner and trade him off for nothing?
I’d like to see it happen but I’m not really expecting it. |

Trade him off for nothing? What the (frank). The leafs are not not trading Marner for nothing and if that’s what you believe I’m going to stop you right there because I think that is ridiculous and we aren’t going to go anywhere here.
And huh? They just fired a coach before his contract even started(5M)
They fired Babcock with tens of millions left on his.
They traded Clarkson for Horton. Clarkson a contract that was insured for Horton a contract that was not insured BUT wouldn’t count against the cap because he would never play again.
If you believe the leafs haven’t and won't flex their financial muscle for the better of the team you haven’t been paying attention or are just saying nonsense for the sake of it. |
