Exactly. Because that's the mess we're in now.
I dreaded every deadline day when Dubas was in charge.
Dealt them like a deck of cards - Leafsmart
You know he dumped Monahan by trading a first round pick with him to the canadiens right? Who traded him to the jets FOR a first round pick. Like Tree got way less than the habs did.
He traded one away in 2022 for Toffoli.
He traded them away for Dougie Hamilton, Hamonic (turned out to be noah dobson).
Be prepared to see more of them traded like cards

No complaints about his latest deadline from me. Still have that valuable first rounder for a change. Said he didn't see anything to improve the team so he stayed put.

NHL: is a business. Regardless they will not let him back in. Bad optics no matter what facts/involvement was.
Leafs: 100%. No way the Mecca would be a good start back into the league. Too bad because he is a good coach and would be my pick - but absolutely no chance they would want that attention. It would destroy the team for sure. - Big23Questions
Yup exactly… even if the league does let him in there is no way Toronto would be insane enough to hire him… he’d land a job in a place like Columbus and even that would get non-stop attention the days they played the leafs. |

We all know that Marchand is a rat.
But Bennett now is taking over T Wilson's position as the league's biggest POS.

Even if he was allowed back in the league Toronto would be the absolutely wrong place for him to land anyways.
The soap opera his work would turn to would be a blessing I know but still lol - Dozzer
Ya think?
If the Leafs started playing right and winning a lot, Q would be invited to dinner parties all over that fickle town of Toronto. |

This.....sounds like a completely reasonable take. Really not sure PLD is the specific move I'd want them to make, but I agree that 25/26 is the year things will really change.
Really comes down to whether MM expects a raise or not.
Ideally (since him resigning for less is probably a pipe dream), I'd want one solid player in a position of need, and then nothing but futures in a trade.
That's probably only likely to be gotten from a crap or up and coming team though, so you get the NMC in the way.
Damn you Kyle Dubas.
I don't really buy the whole 'can't lose the trade' narrative in a hard cap system. If said trade leaves you with a ton of cap room, you can add whatever you get with that space to the ledger as far as I'm concerned. Vegas is always able to get who they need, by using this exact way of thinking (well, that and LTIR). - oldstyle
Agree. If there are no balls to make that BIG move now then 25/26 is the only thing that makes sense.
PLD might not be the guy, I just think a trade that works that way for both teams, with a little retention, is the only way it can go under the circumstances.
I know people hate on PLD but the Leafs WILL need a 2C very soon if not now. JT is slow as poop and not getting it done. JT needs to be at most a 2LW or 3C until Minten is truly ready.
PLD with the right wingers at $8.5...aka $6.5... and locked up for years, would be dynamite for this team. Cheap, young and with the right coach?!?!
Seems interesting to me. Especially getting that young, coveted, cost-controlled RHD in Clarke too. |

the team that gets the best player wins. Leafs dealing with zero leverage. No matter what happens, this place will hate the return |
