Maybe we can trade him for PLD - Canada Cup
Well to be fair he probably doesn't fit in Q's system

the team that gets the best player wins. Leafs dealing with zero leverage. No matter what happens, this place will hate the return - drexel
Leafs fans never really agree on anything, so agree on that.
Folks look at trades all wrong to me. They evaluate like yourself - best player wins trade. That is not the measure. Of course one team can win and the other loose, but both can also win.
The goal of any trade is to improve your team. It’s a fallacy that the beast player in the deal wins the GM the trade. Overall improvement of roster wins the trade. For example - outside Pasta the Leafs had the 4 most talented (“best”) players in the series. Boston has a better roster. Better team. Against Florida same and against Tbay (outside Kucherov).
Hypothetical:
If Tre were to move Marner for a legit starter and dman. Then move JT for another Top 4 dman and with cap space created target a guy 2C and 3RW - Leafs are a far better team than last season. Marner and JT wouod be the best players in their deals but Leafs come out with better more competitive roster composition = win the trade |

Ya think?
If the Leafs started playing right and winning a lot, Q would be invited to dinner parties all over that fickle town of Toronto. - underhill14
Umm yes? There are literally non hockey fans out there who would drop Roger’s and Bell over this. |

Yup, and not only that those two companies aren’t going to risk country wide customers for a leafs coach |

The captaincy needs to go to Matthew’s! Period. Nothing to do with Taveres, doesn’t disrespect him or anything like that! Team needs a change, Matthew’s has a new contract kicking in, JT is on his way out, time to change the guard! Respect needs to be paid to the new guard not the, on their way out, guard. - Bullot

You have no idea that the leafs would come out better. You're only assuming they would.
You cant evaluate a trade like that, the day of or prior to the season. |

Well yeah of course man. Leafs could find a way to have Letang, Malkin, Crosby, Guentzel, then aquire Karlsson and still miss the playoffs.
You never know anything but logically you would think that a Leafs team after acquiring a legit starter, 2 top 4 dmen, a better 2C and 3RW wood fair better than running back with 16/91 (though I am a JT supporter…as a 3C or 2LW).
Also, by that statement - if any team gets a return of a draft pick you can’t evaluate until you see the full career of the puck to see if he was the best player in deal |

I'm pretty sure it was Marner. I'm all but positive Erie was eliminated and McDavid never played in the Memorial Cup.

This core NEEDS to be blown up. Boy Genius Dubas/Shanny footprint all over it. The obvious choice IS Marner. Leafs wont trade JT, not after the whole coming home and giving the "C" to him Leaf Blueprint. That contract needs to be rode out on its final year. Tree hedged his bet on Nylander. I hate that contract but it is what it is from the new guy.
They have proven you CANT spend that much money on a small group. Take your pick: Mathews, Nylander or Marner, knowing you CANT and WONT trade JT. I think the choice is easy here. And dont kid yourself, no movement clauses CAN be dealt with.
A "cool story bro" moment here, from some random person on the internet: my chiropractor in Richmond Hill knows the Marner family. (he's well connected in the sports world) During the last contract negotiations he told me the father was filling Mitchy head with you are better than Mathews and deserve more than him nonsense. Cant imagine what he would ask for this time round.
Curve ball: What if Austin says he wants out of Toronto Drama? I always get the sneaky suspicion he'd pull that one day.

If you're going to essentially pay Cizikas 5.25 million to get rid of JT plus Kampf + pick why not just simply retain 50% of JT's contract outright and get a better deal and not dump Kampf for nothing? Odd dude. Real odd.
Also and why does JT waive for the Island or Buffalo? - Aaron_85
Because Kampf sucks and Cizikas is a solid player who the Leafs can use to replace Tavares in the face-off dot and kill penalties. So he actually earns his 2.5 AAV salary. Retaining 2.75 AAV helps facilitate moving the other 8.25 AAV which allows the Leafs to add a LW and a RHD for that open cap space.
So, long story short, you get rid of Tavares and Kampf and you replace them with a C, a LW and a RHD. If Cizikas can score 10 goals, you sign a winger who scores 15 goals (Joshua?) and a RHD who prevents goals and the Leafs are a better team.
Because Buffalo is closer to his family and Long Island is where he might feel comfortable playing because he played there so long before he came here. If they can get his cap hit low enough, he can go to a lot of different places. I'm just picking two spots that A) he'd be comfortable with and B) could use him. |
