After trading McDonagh, the #Preds now have a projected cap hit of $61,654,199 for next season with 15 contracts on the roster (10F-4D-1G).
$11,805,556 of the $61,654,199 is dead cap.
RS
Johansen- $4m
Ekholm- $250k
Buyout
Duchene - $5.55m
Turris - $2m

Was Mac over the hill, curious as to why they made that trade.

Outside Compher, there's not much there. #4-6 type defenseman and Armia who saw games for Laval this year. Kane and RoR both had better impacts, and RoR still does, we simply didn't keep them around. - QuinnFan
He was an excellent 2-way bottom 6 guy for 7 years between WPG and MTL.
A little revisionism here |

I'm getting the sense that people would be fine with rolling out peterka-cozens-benson again as a second line. I think they need an upgrade there - Hank Balling
buy out skinner so benson can get 13 goals on the second line instead of skinner getting 25

Yeah, 3rd-4th line energy guy. I was just mentioning as Armia is about done. He was a serviceable bottom6 guy but that doesn't really move the needle much. I'm of the mind both of those trades could be undone, and the losing streak would still be going. |

This would be a move in the right direction, but better to do next summer when the Principal is less expensive to buy out or move. |

He was playing well then got fed his lunch - DirtyDan
disagree
it was a simple question
anyone that thinks cozens gave it his all last season was living in a spider hole
he is a core guy in a cap era and to see him going off in this tourneys raises a simple question
where was this effort in jan? |

See I think that was the beginning of the true incompetence.
The WPG trade for Kane was also just awful. Kane was a terrible human, and I think he made the Pegula's second guess what an actual NHL GM was supposed to do

That was a team sorely lacking in any kind of bottom 6 contribution. I'd love to go back and give JB those kind of resources to work with.

Nashville essentially leased Ryan from Tampa for 2 seasons, like a car. |

They were bad last year from game 1. Also not a big fan of pinning it all on the coach. Players want more accountability? Nothing was stopping them.

Botterill would just trade for more defensemen, trying to get double digit dmen on the NHL roster.
He's on a future episode of hoarders. |

I still say wait and see how he works with ruff
if it's not a good fit, bury him and then buy him out in the summer of 25
best case, you got a 40 goal scorer |

so one 24 goal scorer is bad, the 11 goal scorer is good
the 22 goal scorer is captain material and the 18 goal scorer gets a pass because he is doing well in a meaningless tourney for team canada vs stink stank and stunk
seems we are all over the map as far as expectations and scape goats

How many games do you give the coach to assess if his message is working?
How many games do you give the players to adjust to the new system?
What is the realistic margin of error for this group, if they get close, miss the playoffs but looked good - is that considered a good learning experience or a failure? |

First line opportunity comes with first line expectations. Hard to win in this league if your first line doesn't perform.

I want to see what the 1st PP looks like on opening night. Any big changes? Is Skinner on it?

Lot of terrible humans in the league, he's one of the worst, but I don't want to pretend he wasn't better than Armia either. That was the worse trade of the two by far. For RoR, the return basically matched. We simply didn't retain him after the loss of love of the game b.s. |

Fair with the Ruff affect but I doubt Jeff has it in him to score 40 anymore. He needs to be spoon fed and highly motivated for that, neither of which being the case anymore. |

Appert will be a rookie coach taking on that responsibility, my guess is not much will change. |
