The Sabres would've traded the 11th overall in the upcoming draft, a 2nd round pick, Isak Rosén, and Vsevolod Komarov for Ehlers AND Cirelli.
That would be a massive win by the GM. - kingcong39

Do you think the Sabres wouldn't give him $5M to come in and be a de facto captain for a year?
I think most teams in this league would sign up for Stammer at 4x1 tbh. I think there's quite a few that would give a multi year deal as well. His impact has lessened, but he's far from washed up. - QuinnFan
I'm confused.
You said there are several better options than Stamkos...to which I asked you who those are that would provide better value.
I don't see Stamkos leaving Tampa, and if he did it would be alot closer to $7m+ than $4m...why would he discount his value except to a team he has played for since joining the league (15 seasons, he was out for nearly 1 season)
Help me to understand. |

There are better options than Stamkos for what we'd have to pay him ($7M+ as you say)...at $3.8M, 1 year, anyone would sign him IMO, that's all I meant.
At $7M, or a longer term salary, I'd rather go after Cirelli on his own team, as an example. I just was surprised you didn't think other teams wouldn't gladly give him 25% more than that projected salary to come to their team. I would assume nearly anyone in the league would, that's all. I think for us we'd have to convince him he'd be captain here, get a 2-3 year deal vs a one and done, and open the coffers. That's what would dissuade me, I'm not sure he's got that much tread left.
As far as a discount, players discount to go to contenders, which Tampa isn't IMO. Maybe his impression is different but there's the home town discount and the contender discount, I'd say the latter is more common tbh. |

Dream scenario imo. He and Lindy together would kick the rest of the team into shape |

If you deduct trauma from being in a bad organization….Mitts was practically 18 years old the entire time in Buffalo. |

Mitts was never a good fit for a 3C: not a faceoff guy, not an especially good two-way player. He deserved a shot as a 2C to produce offensively. If the right fit for a 3C comes along - even at $6m - they should absolutely do it imo |

This Sabres team requires an infusion of leadership to take it to the next level. The proper leader of this team isn't here yet...and Stamkos fills exactly that, plus superior performance which improves in the PO's ...he's the epitomy of a gamer. As a center, he's in the mid 50's for FO win %. As a Captain he has been through the war of leading a team that "cheated" play, and helped transform them into a machine that can lock down Game 7 wins 2-1. That is exactly what you pay him for. The Sabres would have the best Captain in the game to learn accountability from...right now, they just admitted they can't even spell it, let alone implement it.
I'm stunned a Sabres fan after these 13 seasons wouldn't jump at the opportunity to have him lead the team. |
