How's this for a fun little exercise. 17 million is Okposo (2.5), Girgensons (2.5), Jost (2.0), Olofsson (4.75), Colin Robinson (acquire, to be fair - 1.6), Johnson (3.25), and maybe we add on Bryson even though he turned out to miraculously be useful this year. (1.85). 18.45M

What did that get us?

Standing Points Above Replacement of -2.2. And recall how I mentioned Bryson was actually useful (EVD of 3.3), he ended up at +0.5. Take him out, and the misfit crew earned themselves a total SPAR of -2.7

16.6 million dollars to go back in the standings almost 3 whole points.

Yeah, that's another area that's gonna be interesting in the offseason. Still wouldn't go more than a 1 year contract with UPL, but who is riding with UPL. Is Levi ready ?

I like Samuelsson, actually defended him here when he was drafted because people were hating on his skating. Even said to hold up and that he hired a personal Skating Coach at College to help him. And it did, but I think he is injury prone and when he does play the style we need. He gets hurt.

The QOC charts for the Sabres D are fascinating. Says Byram and Bryson played the hardest competitive minutes. Correct me if I'm wrong, but is that compared to their own RAPM and GAR scores? Dahlin was third (obviously played against the top comp) and Samuelsson was fourth. Power and Jokijarju also played plus competition. Byram played the hardest comp comparatively and got stomped for it.

Hurricanes are an excellent team that I want the Sabres to clone and play like. There puck movement, passing, and skating is excellent with their analytics

The only issue with the canes is goaltending.

With such a good team, I get a goalie isn’t completely necessary during the regular season.

But playoff time, you need an average goalie atleast. Freddie anderson and that rookie don’t cut it.

Leafs are in the same boat.

Paying / needing an elite goalie isn’t needed or necessary. But bad bottom of the barrel goaltending kills you. No matter how good your roster is.
