Well there’s a golfer story from this morning but I’m more referring to them saying they’re happy they don’t live in NYC - picklerick
The Scheffelr reference was kind of stupid. The comment after about Isles fans wanting to pull them in orange jumpsuits was okay. Saying they are happy every day they don't live in NY, that's the tipping point.
I know it might be rare, but could you imagine a SC final game being tied in the 3rd with say 5 minutes left and a player goes to clear a puck off the glass, no pressure, the puck flips up on his stick cause of bad ice and it goes out of play, gets a penalty and they lose. What a horrible way to end a game - mdw7413
It's got to be incredibly rare for players to take a delay of game unpressured, because there is usually no reason to chip the puck towards the glass unless you are under pressure.
It would no doubt be a horrible way to lose the game, but you can say that about an untimely too many men penalty, or a player looking to clear the zone and breaking his stick leading to a goal. Bad breaks happen.
I certainly wouldn't want to make the call at the discretion of the refs to decide if it were intentional or not. We have way too much gray area with calls like goalie interference or a kicking motion. The more black and white the better IMO
It's a horrible rule. It was put in to stop people intentionally delaying the game (which was a legit problem back in the day) but now every accidental clearing over the glass by the defender is suspect. I mean if Laf's stick beats the Carolina player to the puck and it goes over the boards clean its the same situation but no penalty. It's just stupid. Thank god that wasn't the call.
That said, I'm annoyed Rod B was complaining about the penalty for the hit on Zibs. You don't have to like it, but it was pretty legit. - Queenie_5_hole
Has there been one that he hasn't complained about since he started coaching???

Sure it could happen without pressure, just be a player at the blueline you are trying to get the puck past. The other things you listed are unfortunate or legit penalties... i will never be convinced an unintentional puck over the glass deserves a penalty

he can whine all he wants. Fact is Freddie poop the bed and let the Rangers have some life.
Rod should have called a time out to settle everything down. he didn't. The Rangers let momentum help them roll right over the canes. - BINGO!
Man Freddie puts up some good numbers but he gives up some real back breakers. That first Kreider goal is completely unacceptable at that point in the game. He's really bad with pucks near his feet
I just hate the rule. Kind of like the goalie interference that seems to be arbitrary, or the puck off a skate, which I think they finally fixed. - mdw7413
I hate it too, but it has to be everything called or nothing because I don't think it's even remotely possible to try and determine what was intentional and what wasn't. And it would definitely be abused if there was no penalty for it. I know this because it's my go-to move if we get hemmed in our own end in a beer league game. Fire that poop right up over the glass because there is no penalty for it

It's like a switch flips when the pressure is on and he suddenly has no idea how to play hockey. Kochetkov lives for the pressure and the emotion, Freddie starts moving around way too much and sitting too far back in his net.
I didn't love the way the canes handled their goalies, if you can't tell.

I think there could be a way, but it would still be arbitrary unfortunately. Basically no pressure or just reaching for a puck, no penalty, stuck in your zone for 2 minutes and you launch a field goal into the cheap seats, penalty

What do you think happens with Rod this offseason? There's no doubt he's a good coach but good coaches get fired a lot

You can take the goaltender out of Toronto, but...

I mean his contract is up. I think it depends on how big of a sticking point keeping his full staff is.
Last time his contract was up he demanded that everybody else stayed too, or at least got offered a fair contract. He took less to make sure that his assistants and training staff all got more.
If he wants that again it's going to be a problem. Some new voices are needed in there.

Chatfield killed you guys. He was soft on the 4th goal and all series they seemed to take advantage of him at various pts near the net
