They probably are.
Sign 2 solid veterans.
Hope you drafted well in Nazar and Korch and 98 - if all 3 make a significant improvement and this team stays relatively healthy, they can have a decent season. Probably NOT making the playoffs, but could keep the season interesting until the last 7 or 8 games or so.

I'd like them to try and make a push for Marner. Just not sure KD has the stones to make move like that.

C'mon..... absolutely NO on Marner. Too much money for a SOFT player. I'd much rather go after Neces.....size and speed.

Nečas is a little bit younger, not sure how much he'd want though.
Marner is more productive though.
I guess it depends on how much each would cost.

Funny thing was an article a few days ago about someone saying who knows if he'll ever come to the NHL.
Then this morning there was some noise around Michkov news. And now it looks like he's gonna be playing for Philly next year

Really makes me wonder if Demidov could come over next year as well, or would he have to play the last year of his contract.

Did you watch Marner in the playoffs? Not this year’s playoffs but every playoff he’s been in (I hate to use the word competed in because in the playoffs he doesn’t compete). If you’re content with a guy who is fantastic in the regular season but is timid, no make that terrified, in the playoffs that’s great, I just hope KD isn’t. I’d hate to think not only what Chicago would have to give up to get him but how much cap he would command to play his best in the regular season. A big NOPE to Marner from me, and hopefully Davidson.

Michkov playing for Philly next year?
Wonder if Demidov can get the same deal

Last week there was a report that the Flyers didn’t expect to see Michkov any time soon. Then this report comes out. The Hawks can’t mess this pick up and if there’s a delay or if Demidov or Silayev sign a longer term KHL deal, I don’t think Chicago can take the chance. I hope if Davidson is looking at either he has some assurance the pick will be in Chicago in the next year or two before he makes the pick. I read there’s talk Demidov is considered to be the best Russian draftee since Ovechkin, I sure wouldn’t mind seeing that line up beside Bedard. If these Russian players aren’t in North America at the combine, but especially at the draft, I think Davidson has to choose a safer pick.

KD should call Briere and find out the under the table cost to bring a Russian over. First the goalie Fedotov, now Michkov.

I'll repeat myself, name 1 Russian in the last 15 or 20 years that wanted to play in North America that couldn't.

The narrative is pushed by people who want to get into the politics of things. It simply doesn't exist.

I'm not going to take the time to name all the Russians playing in the CHL, AHL and NHL none of us have the time for that.

You take the best player available regardless of position, and I'm going to add, country of origin.

Players will go where they want to play and they will want to play where they make the most money. That's pretty much it.

The team that drafts Demidov will want to be certain he wants to play in North America. If they want then they can make it happen unless there is some larger shift in politics internationally.

And, further in the article they mention Michkov will be the 3rd player the Flyers got outa Russia in the last 12 months........ For me, that's a lotta funk and it's gotta be tough to shape, and stick to, an organIzational plan not really knowing if/when a top player (a Russian), or two, will get outa that funky country.

I'm a Demidov guy who, along with Parekh, has the highest offensive ceiling of the entire draft. I see Datsyuk in the Ozone when I watch Demidov but they can not miss on this pick and must eliminate the risk in doing so.

But, if they draft him I'm all in thinking how nuts it would be to see Demidov and Bedard skating together for 10 yrs. ....... They'll go with the RS Dman outa Mi St. A safe smart pick on a big kid who can skate. His floor is 2nd pairing, ceiling top pair, run the PP and take the tough minutes.

You definitely have a valid point. But there is also the current political environment to consider, it’s never been hotter. If Michkov comes over as per the report then I suspect there are no concerns in that regard. It comes down to Chicago simply cannot take the chance not only on the politics but also on the accuracy of the scouting of Demidov or Silayev’s interest in making the move to the NHL.

Some more Michkov info:

https://twitter.com/ADiMa...5rEopkF225hJjND5k3zA&s=19

My read on the situation is that the negotiation right now is between Michkov/his agent and SKA, centering around how much the team will be compensated to terminate the contract.

If money is right SKA is open to Michkov moving to North America earlier than expected.

Sort of a: How bad do you really want this guy? How much $$$ are you willing to spend to make it happen?

Whoever drafts him should fork over enough $$$ to get him out of his contract and into the AHL/NHL (depending on how good he is) next year.
His team is probably going to punish him by not letting him play in the KHL next season. If he is lucky he'll play in the VHL

Would seem there is an art to getting Russians out and the best bet is just reach into your pocket and make it happen... Lotta funk, man.

Do I remember not long ago a kid trying to get out, or did, who's dad was shot and killed?

As long as there are assurances from the player himself, his KHL team, the government and how accurate the scouting is I have no concerns who the team selects.

As far as I know this is true VAbear but I'll mention a war in Russia that wasn't there the last 15-20 yrs and that Flyer Cossack goalie was all loaded up to come to Philly, was stopped, conscripted and sent near the front lines in the Ukraine... He almost got out in a pine box!!!.. Lotta possible funk on the #2 overall and the reward for a horrid putrid season endured Hawks fans.

Simple as pie. You can not miss on the #2 pick but if you insist the risk is worth it Demidov is a difference maker.

Don't think so. There's another Philly goalie prospect Alexei Kosolov who wants to go back.

Not sure honestly.
I remember Michkov's father "dying" under weird circumstances. Found him in a lake or pond or something similar.

Thanks, Capn..... Guess I had the details mangled but indeed you're right it was Michkov's Pops. https://www.hockeyfeed.co...-at-51-in-suspicious-case
