Nothing is handed to a player, they have to earn their roster spot. If this kid is already whining about playing in the AHL then I really question his resolve. If he truly wants to be an NHL goalie for the Flyers, he needs to stay here and develop, and then play better than Fedetov and Ersson. |

Right because the Flyers are not making any moves between now and next season … come on already |

It would be perfectly acceptable for a contending team. However, for a team as far from a Cup as Philly, you’d like to see more available cap space. - BiggE
In fairness, Briere has set the team up to gain significant cap space next summer- Johannsen, Petersen, TK (I'm aware of the perception of imminent extension), Atkinson, and Hathaway off the cap. Now, between now and then could he change that trajectory, hope not.

Cap Friendly lists the roster at 19 of 23 - so before LTIR they have 500K to round out the roster. My understanding is they can not use LTIR until the season begins - they have to be cap-compliant before using LTIR - so it is actually worse than it looks - corduroy
There's offseason LTIR.
And they're allowed to go 10% above the cap in the summer.
The only thing they can't do is bury cap hits in the minors until the waiver period begins. |

I see cap friendly has now updated its list with the Ellis LTIR candidate factor.

That I can agree with. But I'm not going to run the team down for something that is really a non issue. Especially when they have 35 million in cap space (so far) for next season. - MBFlyerfan

They still must be cap compliant when they submit their roster on opening night without using LTIR space
They have 4 dmen signed don't they need at least 6?
They are not in an enviable position cap wise |

I don’t know what he is doing or feeling. I am just stating that if he really wants to play in the NHL he needs to develop here, not the KHL |

Not the case as long as they are under the 10% overage cushion if I read this correctly.
Can LTIR be used in the off-season?
Yes, LTIR can be used in the off-season while the 10% off-season cushion is active. LTIR in the off-season is calculated using the basic equation outlined above, which permits a team to exceed the off-season salary cap. To use off-season LTIR the team must provide doctors proof that the player in question will continue to be injured at the beginning of the regular season for 10 NHL games and 24 calendar days.
At the start of the season the teams LTIR relief & ACSL is recalculated when the 10% cushion is removed. |

Nah, whoever's on offseason LTIR will just begin the season on LTIR. So the Flyers can replace Ellis' cap hit without any worry.

When looking at future cap it’s important to factor in the TK and Hathaway extensions.
Also the next round of glue guys they plan to sign this offseason. |

They can not be over 87.7M on opening night. They can not use LTIR until after they submit their cap-compliant roster to the league. Ellis and Johansen will be on the opening night roster - that 10.25M is on the books and will be used when determining if the team is cap-compliant. After opening night they can place players on LTIR. The team can go over in the offseason but must be cap-compliant on opening night - as their roster is constructed today; they are (frank)ed |
