Canes have a lot of chum for the rest of the league to pick through this off-season. |
|

It's the nature of being a small market, limited budget team.
They can't take huge swings and miss -- owner can't afford to Kevin Hayes a mistake or bury a lot of money in the AHL (they didn't even have an affiliate this season) or take on bad contracts in trade or take advantage of the LTIR loophole.
They're not really on an even playing field with the rest of the contenders. - Tomahawk
their owner is very well off is he not? don't think it is a money issue for that owner. he chooses nto to spend.
even so a team, even a small market, needs to take a shot once in a while. |

you stalking my twitter account again? how you know had KFC?
RP is a dime a dozen 4th line center. You trade him for assets then find the next RP. Or you look to re-sign in summer as doubt the acquiring team would really look to bring him back on a 2 year deal.
Seeler should not have been given a 4 year deal. He is now overpaid with term for a bottom pair dman despite the fact he is top 4 on a wretched flyers team. With or without Seller the team is no better no worse. Many teams would have taken him and his 850 k contract on. Again then you go find the next Seller.
Called asset management. |

you want to jettison perfectly capable players just for the sake of doing so. that's not a good look for any team to just be a conveyor belt of new faces, rebuilding years or not.

I tend to agree on this but my thought is if you move Laughton this deal makes more sense at his age because he can kind of fill that laughton roll of playing multiple spots in the lineup if needed.
NOW, having both Laughton and Poehling I don't like.

they are perfectly capable replaceable players. that is what you do not seem to grasp. they are the ones you move along when you have a market for them instead of overpaying.
not just for the sake of doing so. for the sake of acquiring more assets that you can use and have at your disposal. |

well i think Laughton is a much better all-around player than RP. though i get what your saying. |

i don't think you'd get anything for RP that is worth moving him out. he was a first round pick and reclamation project. he's played well for us. for me, the upside of keeping him for the time being and reaping the potential benefits of said reclamation project is too good. at center no less. he isn't old. he can replace laughton - someone everyone wants traded. he got a (gasp!) 2 year deal.
but please continue to make it look worse than it is.

what do you think you w0uld get?
dont care what he was, I care what he is today. what benefits? take him off the team replace with whoever and the flyers are not better no worse.
no he cant replace him as did you see how ineffective RP looked when playing in the top 6? laughton is a much better player to me. not that I want him in ay top6 role either. |

I would think Pesce is asking for a good bit more than $5mil. - mickel25
Asking yes. I don’t think the Canes will pay more than that. IMO they will try Chatfield in the top 4.

Tulsky and Waddell have a very clear idea of what each player is worth to the team in dollars/years and they aren't shy about moving on if a player tries to get more than that, no matter who it is.
See: Trocheck, Dougie, D'Angelo, Nedeljkovic
Basically the opposite of the Flyers who are always willing to give more dollars and years when they want to keep somebody. - Tomahawk
That’s why I don’t see Necas coming back. He can probably get 7.5 -7.75Mil/7 yrs.

the benefits of him perhaps eventually living up to his high draft pick. how much money are you realistically saving by bringing in some "dime a dozen" player? what are you planning to do with that colossal savings? is there no benefit of having guys who want to be here?

Poehling is what 24/25 years old? 2 years ain't nothing.
Seeler was plain stupid but again, he's young.
No sense in extending dudes in their 30's like Hathaway. - Pelle31Forever

a defenseman at 31-35 that plays a hard game and wants to be a flyer, at his cap hit, is better than signing some bigger name vet to a higher cap hit thats just passing through town. there's plenty of room for kids to play. what are we even complaining about?
