a defenseman at 31-35 that plays a hard game and wants to be a flyer, at his cap hit, is better than signing some bigger name vet to a higher cap hit thats just passing through town. there's plenty of room for kids to play. what are we even complaining about? - anti-lame
Giving long term extensions to 3rd pairing dmen in their 30s when the team is supposed to be rebuilding.
The Flyers have the highest cap hit in the league going into next season. |

plenty of youth playing meaningful minutes on d. you need bodies to fill out the roster. nothing wrong with seeler's deal.
Risto is either on his way out or never playing again lol beyond Sanheim you have no other vets on D. Seeler fills a role at a reasonable cap hit and fills that hole for 4 years. fine.
if they resign Johnson and he becomes anything more than a 7th or 8th dman, that's something to complain about.

their owner is very well off is he not? don't think it is a money issue for that owner. he chooses nto to spend.
even so a team, even a small market, needs to take a shot once in a while. - hello it's me 2050
Yeah, the guy didn't buy the team for the usual billionaire bragging rights. He was mostly interested in the business aspect of turning a failing team around. So he runs that team with ruthless efficiency... making every dollar count. And supposedly he's super hands on with all the contract negotiations.

I am probably in the minority but I don't really think the Seeler deal is that bad. Maybe a year long but I see him as what he'll be. 3rd pairing, PK defenseman as they start to bring in more youth. Will step in to defend teammates if needed(don't need Deslauriers) and brings some physicality on the back end.
The NTC is for the first two years, if plays well, then he can be moved in year 3 if you look to do that. He'd be a depth defenseman teams like for a playoff run.
I am ok with his deal if it prevents them from going out and signing another 3rd paring guy for FA money that is higher cap and longer term. |

it's all very reasonable but people just need something to complain about. there's already plenty to complain about, the seeler or poehling deals ain't it. |

Well Toronto hired Berube.
I could see Seattle making that move. That could help them attract free agents and he is a great coach. |

good price for a guy willing to put it all on the line for 3rd pair minutes you could do much worse |

people hate those two signings for one reason and one reason only. They are “Torts guys”… god forbid
If lavi said “you gotta have these guys” people here would probably be drooling over them lol |

For me, just me. I get what needs to be done for a proper rebuild. I understand signing vets for long term isn't great. I don't think these two deals and these two guys don't kill a rebuild plan IF the Flyer do other things.

you’re absolutely right. it’s not like these deals scream “win now” ffs
Everyone’s magic answer is “play kids” so sure we can throw some kid who ISN’T knocking down the door into the lineup so we can say we are “developing” and when that doesn’t pan out we can say they “ruined the kids” I swear people have no idea what they want they just repeat buzzwords.
75% of this board repeats each other (every day) so they can all feel apart of something. |

Chief Berube to the hockey matrix Toronto. Let's do a Raindance - THE EVIL WITHIN
With hiring Berube then I don't think any of the core four are moved. They will probably look for a goalie unless they believe in Woll and then build up the edges more. Probably try to resign Bertuzzi. |

They could really help themselves trading konecny. It’s going to be funny to watch them resign him.
On Johansen, they’d be fools to buy him out, or anyone else at all. $4 million to play minor league hockey, cry me a river. - Just5
There is a good chance they might not have a choice but to buy someone out.

Asking yes. I don’t think the Canes will pay more than that. IMO they will try Chatfield in the top 4. - Minnyhock
Chatfield blew the coverage on the game winner last night.

They gotta do something to that roster. That city wants Marner’s blood the way they reacted to his playoff performance.
Wouldn’t be shocked to see him moved for defense. |

I don’t know why Atkinson is still here. If they can’t move him they might as well cut ties.
This is the Flyers tho so they’ll ride him to an 8 seed and drafting in the middle of the pack. |

I'm not expecting Atkinson to bounce back. I don't think he's going to do much. I'd rather him just play out his final year as a part time player. They may not have a choice though and may have to buy him out.

Bingo - you know they are saying man if only we beat san jose and mtl we could have been in the playoffs and who knows what could have happened - corduroy
Which is insane when we all saw what happened to WSH and NYI in the playoffs. |
