Wow lots of articles on the net about Marner hiring a security company, and them harassing some reporters. There were those on here critical of me saying Marner could get boo’d if he plays another game. It’s the middle of May, this could really spool up by October. It’s a toxic relationship and probably best for all to move on!
I don’t understand guys growing up loving the Leafs and then fleecing them during contract negotiations. Give your home town fans/team a fair deal and in Toronto especially, the payback in love and endorsements, would easily make up for the money, for the rest of your life. - Bullot
Ol Mitch to Anaheim for LaCombe / Terry, Oil 1st - & our 2nd.
Leafs package Oil 1st our 2nd and Lilly to Flames for Markstrom 20% retained and Flames 2nd from Dallas.

Why not? History has shown that nobody in Leafs jammies likes pay cuts. This team rolled the (frank)ing Brinks truck to David "Wendel" Clarkson. No player from Ontario or a Leafs fan gives a (frank) about giving the Leafs a discount and never have. What's the last actual pay cut an "Ontario Boy" gave the team that wasn't a last ditch effort to get a contract? - AdamFrench
It's only ever the old guys who would otherwise be retired like Simmonds, Giordano, Spezza, Marleau, Thornton and so on and so on.
I think certain "home town boys" are extra motivated to win a Cup in Toronto because their fundamental goal is winning a Cup.
But others, playing for the Leafs is their Stanley Cup and once they have achieved that, the motivation drastically drops *cough* Tavares.
All that being said, playing in Toronto costs players (more than just money) that it wouldn't cost them if they played somewhere else. So the real question is, why does playing "at home" cost them so much. Maybe it's time for "cap spending fairness" to include allowing teams in high tax areas to have more cap space for "parity in the playing field".
No matter how much a player loves his city, he'll always love his family more which is why real discounts never really happen. |

If you talk to Habs fans, they will tell you the same thing. This weird fairytale about following your dream for the dream of it is bunk. Every French Canadian worth their salt balk and shun Montreal no matter the price.
Also old man Monitoba Marleau signed for 6 freaking mil at 38...39? Can't recall. Not a low number |

I'd say it's mostly the same but the French Canadian identity is significantly stronger because of the language and it did significantly help them in the historical past. Probably not so much in the recent past. I think Europeans enjoy playing in Montreal more than other areas too because the city feels European to them. |

I think he was 37 but yeah, not a significant discount. He took 400K off his last AAV.
O'Reilly gave it a test run, thought about it and said, nah, (frank) this place. Not worth the headache. And hard to blame him because he's probably right. |

Read that last week - was waiting to see if it’s credible and/or if it catches fire…absolutely insane if that’s true. He is done if true that is an absolute f-up thing for a multi million dollar pro athlete to do. |

Don't know why people are talking about Tsyplakov when Goldobin scored 37 goals and 78 points and he's still only 27.
If the Leafs are gonna go after anybody, buyout his contract and bring him in. Leafs need a LW as bad as anything else. Tarasenko worked well under Berbube, maybe he can whisper sweet Russian poems to Goldobin too.

Great idea.

I think it’s crazy to expect any player with any kind of jammies to take a pay cut for the team or the fans. That said, be prepared to be roasted if you don’t live up to the money you’re being paid. |

Which is why Tavares has been roasted so crispy...oh wait...
In the six years he's been with the Leafs, he lived up to his contract maybe once, his first season when he scored 47 goals. And I'd still say that wasn't good enough considering at the time he was probably the 2nd highest paid player in the NHL behind only McDavid. He was 3rd in goals, 16th in points and no playoff success.
But the majority of Leafs fans (and shepherd media) have been so enamored by the moment when he signed here in the first place they have completely overlooked the fact that he hasn't lived up to his contract for the vast majority of it. |

KHL-NHL is a style thing before stats most of the time. Watching a 20 year old small Panarin fight for everything, you knew he had it in him and only being 5'9 during his draft year and in the Hinterlands left him off the draft board. If you don't have the prospects, it's always good to look for external help even if it's just to be depth. Toronto has done a great job getting depth players for some time (at NHL/AHL/ECHL levels). |

Dune : first three books are (frank)ing epic reading. Like future Lord of the Rings with sand. One part fantasy, one part sci-fi, one part mystical woo(frank)ery. It's definitely mana for geeks.
The David Lynch movie is a love-it or hate-it thing. Fans of the books are split on it. Watch that first before watching the new ones. If you hate the Lynch adaptation, then you probably won't like the new ones either. The new ones are just as weird, just with updated visual effects and newer "hotter" actors.
The new movies grew on me. It took me a while, but once I got past the initial resistance to the casting choices, it got a lot better.
But yeah, don't expect your wife or girl to like it. You can lure them into watching it because of pretty boy Chalamet, but they will be bored to tears and just humoring you. - GalacticStone
If you are going to watch Lynch's version of Dune, I HIGHLY recommend watching the Alternative Edition Redux.
https://fanedit.org/dune-...al-1080p-edition/reviews/
It turns a flawed film into an absolute-bonkers masterpiece.
As per the books, I think they fall off a cliff in terms of quality after the original, but they're never dull. |

Seriously buddy - all you do on here is say stupid poop. You have the dumbest (clearly never played) takes. If I were a betting man I would bet you are an alt...pretty sure I know who's.
Figure out the context to the comment I posted. It wasn't about personal security because he was carjacked - it was in direct response to the fact it was reported he used private security to harass members of the media, not carjacker. You bloody ejit.
Its no hate fest on Marner for Christ sakes. Maybe for some but not myself or most. Makes too much, doesn't play when it counts, that's the bottom line. Some of us don't have these bizarre boy crushes and attachments to players who did give a flying poop about us. We just want them to perform as they are paid to do and when they don't they get chirped. You weirdos and your creepy fixation with these guys. You have no clue how little a pro hockey values you. They don't. At all. Grow up. They care that the more you love them the more money they potentially make.
