Dude did sweet (frank) all with the Canucks, why would he turn it around at 28 with the Leafs? Hard pass. - mjones242
That was 4 years ago.
Look at Valeri Nichushkin. He has his drug problems now but he went from scoring 0 goals in a season for Dallas to becoming a monster power forward for Colorado. If Colorado had said "nah he's a bust in Dallas, let him go back to the KHL", you think they'd regret it?
Sometimes, guys need more time to figure out the game.
If it only costs the Leafs non-cap money (to buy out his KHL contract) and it's a small cap hit, how could it hurt them to try? They got Mikheyev who probably had one quarter of the skill and he was a decent player for a couple years. |

Nichushkin is a bad analogy as he started his career with Dallas and then left for the KHL when they couldn't agree on a contract. He poop the bed in his return to Dallas and the Avs took a flyer on him which has paid off.
Goldobin poop the bed and was dumped on waivers and was never picked up.
He doesn't have great size like Nichushkin and he's had one precisely great season in the KHL on the highest scoring team in the league. He's also naturally a RW which would put him behind a couple other dudes on the Leafs. And he ain't no Panarin.
So explain to me why the Leafs would want to buy out the contract on this guy again? Because Nichushkin has had success? |

I made a small list of guys that look interesting but you know more about the Russian pipeline. What do you think of the following?
Nikolay Goldobin LW
Teemu Turunen LW
Janne Kuokkanen C
David Tomasek C/RW
Lukas Sillinger C/W
Alexander Nikishin LHD
Damir Sharipzyanov LHD
Kyle Capobianco LHD
Gianfranco Cassaro LHD
Robin Press RHD
Axel Rindell RHD
Dylan Coghlan RHD
Niklas Kokko G
Joel Blomqvist G
Hunter Shepard G
Kyle McClellan G - Rare_Jewel
I got nothing new to add. When I lived there I followed it all. Now, I read some Russian articles and watch a few games, but nothing serious. |

So you basically just described a player who "didn't do poop" but then came back years later and became a useful player. Thanks for reinforcing the point I already proved to you.
He doesn't have great size like Nichushkin and he's had one precisely one great season in the KHL on the highest scoring team in the league. He's also naturally a RW which would put him behind a couple other dudes on the Leafs. And he ain't no Panarin.
They aren't exactly the same player but the situations are similar. He's listed as a LW and a RW. He shoots left. It wouldn't be the hardest thing in the world to handle. Yes, the Leafs are also a high scoring team, henceforth why it could work if he played on the LW with let's say, the #1 goal scorer in the NHL.
So explain to me why the Leafs would want to buy out the contract on this guy again? Because Nichushkin has had success?

Man - i used to leave you be and try (though it wasn't my place) to advocate that you are just a Marner guy and I respect that you support him the way you did. I then tried to post some stats that spoke in contradiction of your constant Marner better than Willy narrative - and you got furious. You responded calling me b]names and aggressively attacking me. I'm not sure if this was prior to your antisemitism based breakdown or not but come on man. Just take a break in here.
Are you this mad today cause you tried to open a pickle jar? |

Outside of this place I’m a very laid back, low drama guy. It can be like that in here as well.
Actually it probably can’t. There was a time when it was, but now I spend more than half my time dragging guys like Grimey because they never stop. So why would I stop? I told you to stay out of it. |

Regardless of who is the better player at this point, Nylander is locked up and isn't going anywhere for many years.
Marner, unfortunately or fortunately, is in a position where the Leafs have to decide whether they keep the Core together or go in a different direction.
Methinks, as wonderful a player Mitch is, the Leafs as an org aren't likely to re-sign him for term nor near any number at or exceeding Willie.
At the end of the day, I think the Leafs have to do everything they can to trade him and balance the lineup with some grit, size, and players who can actually grow a beard. |

Sure we will:
This year AM34 was dealing with a serious illness and injury. He single handedly won us Game 2.
Wtf did Mitch do this season? Hell, Willie did more in his 4 games than Marner did in 7.

I’m “cope”cetic.
It’s you guys dealing with the fact that Marner isn’t going anywhere, and that Berube is going to run Willy out of town.
Piling on Marner like you’s do is sad. Pack mentality mass hysteria bullying. I see it everyday.
So when some of us stand up for him, it’s you guys who struggle and resort to childish name calling. |

No, I described a player who started his career with promise and then couldn't come to terms on his RFA contract so he signed with a club in the KHL before returning to Dallas. He ended up having a down season and the Avs happily scooped him up.
If it weren't for Colorado, other teams would have signed Nichuskin.
Goldobin was a bust who took his game to the KHL and hasn't had a sniff since. He's had precisely one good season statistically - this year - on a team that had the most potent offence in the league. Before that, he was a middling player on Spartak.
But yes, the Leafs should totally buy out his contract and try him out on LW on the Leafs #1 line because he's listed as LW/RW on some sites.
Nichuskin and Goldobin is a massive false equivalence on pretty much every level.
I always love this time of year when fans look at the top scorers in other leagues the past season and think one of those players may be a found wallet. |

You’re doing what Cush did. You’re clutching your pearls and trying to kick up a bunch of dirt to draw other people in.
That’s why his new thing is calling me anti-Semitic, because it’s something that triggers an emotional response in people. It doesn’t matter that I’m not an anti-Semite, all that matters is that there’s now a frenzy where he can try to build off it. The facts get pushed to the back burner.
So yes. I’ll call out this behaviour and have a go back at those perpetrating this.

Drawing in other people? What are talking about man? Its a computer screen. This isn't in person you know that eh
I could give a poop about anyone on here or having people 'have my backs'. Maybe that's the separator for me and you - this is just some place I waste time on and try to talk hockey vs this is your lifeblood...that and my forearms don't get strained from tying my shoes. |
