Berube is a hard but fair coach. From my understanding he's very much a player's coach because he doesn't mince words - he will talk to you directly and mean what he says - "what do I do to get more ice time?", "what do I need to change?", "how do I get into the lineup?" . . . all of those questions he will give very direct answers for, and while they are hard answers to hear, they are truth, and he apparently sticks to what he says. Players appreciate that.

Keefe's, "You're too vanilla," is such a bullpoop comment to have made to Vesey - not that he was wrong - but a player needs more coaching and input than that.

I'm agreeing with Drexel - Berube will appreciate Robertson's work effort, but he will have serious concerns with his lack of detail in the D-zone. I expect Berube would have similar concerns with Domi, Bertuzzi and Gregor - all of whom have had their fair share of mistakes, missed assignments or lost battles in the D-zone. Of course I'm on team "don't resign Bertuzzi".

I think if you provide the right support for a guy like Rielly, he'll be fine - but St. Louis didn't fare as well with both Krug and Faulk on the blueline as they did with simply having Pietrangelo back there - who they just played about 40 minutes a game. They ultimately ended up giving all those minutes to Parayko, and while he's good, he's not Pietrangelo.

I imagine several of the players on our Leaf player list will change before October rolls around.

And Nylander, right?

Hot take :

Nylander and Marner are both great players in different ways. The Leafs are better off having both of them on the roster.

Qualifier : Now.........the question of pay and caphit is another discussion entirely. The GM, owners, and other brass will be taking a long look at the roster contracts and medium-long term cap management. Hard decisions will be made.

20 games.

2 goals.

2 assists.

And the slowest shift changes I have ever seen.

One is great, the other padded his stats during a contract year.

I’m telling you, Nylander is going to absolutely hate Berube, and it’ll be a headline story as soon as training camp starts.

Fired twice ...not sure that's much of a feat in sports. If you survive 3 years as a head coach you're a legacy and get a special pinky ring.

Seen St Louis talk suggesting Berube likes a heavy game. He wants the opposing team to pay a price every shift.

I don't know if that is true. A good coach has to adapt to the talent that he can put on the ice.

But, I also causes me to wonder if the Leafs are thinking about moving in the direction of a more physical line up.
