Defense will be the key.
Goaltending secondary.
The players will adjust.......or be sacrificed.

Sorry, watching Dune 2.

- Fakepartofme

I started watching that, and then the wife came home. She hates any kind of science fiction so when she’s away I binge watch.

Same. Let’s hope it doesn’t matter soon because that year THE LEAFS ARE THE ONLY TEAM COMING OUT OF THE EAST TO PLAY FOR THE CUP!!!!
- Cush29

I am going to be really curious if the team plays the same in the playoffs next year. I am not sure they have the roster capable of winning but I want to see what new coaching looks like.

Watching these other series, I feel like the real problem with the Leafs is that they simply don't work hard enough. Every team that was left this week sure looks like they are playing harder, pretty much every shift.

Agreed. The commitment level has just not been there consistently. I also am looking forward to Tree's makeover into a more playoff style team in terms of roster construction. Optimistic for the first time in a long time, to be honest.

I really enjoyed it. My wife and son asked me to explain what the hell was going on.

It is a complex story. A lot is going on. I am not sure people not familiar with the story ahead of time would enjoy it all that much.

I'm really not sure about trading Marner though. I thought Domi was one of the best Leafs on the ice all series against Boston. Id like to see him and Bertuzzi back.

Marner is a fantastic player but if you can re-sign Domi and Bertuzzi and upgrade one of the D positions, it may be better to trade him. We've all thouhght for a while that 4 or 5 players taking up half the cap, or more, might not ne a recipe for success.

Yeah, I read the novel a couple of years ago and we watched the first movie at Christmas time. My son had read it as well, so he explained stuff to my wife and daughters. It was entertaining for sure. Haven't seen the 2nd part yet....

Shouldn’t you wait until something happens, first?

But you know Mitch is going nowhere.

You’re reeling, you got nothing!

I’ll add you to the always wrong about everything folder.

No one on the planet has grilled a steak as perfectly or as tastily as I just did. With roasted fresh first cut local asparagus and butter rice. I’m in heaven.

Used to think the same about my own till I spent a week in Alberta. You simply cannot beat fresh source cow.
But does Oakville frikkin Ontario (despite ridiculous property taxes) allow me to keep my own cows? Phhft.

We should come up with an interesting bet about this..

If Marner leaves or stays etc..

It’s awesome how many of you’s are wrong about his standing with the organization. I should capitalize on this somehow.

And Nylander, right?

Becaaaaaauuuusseeeee…

- Arctic_AARDVARK

Realistically . . . . let's look at both Nylander and Marner and start with the PK.

Now you have different deployments in terms of opposition strength, but this year amongst our 10 penalty killers with more than 20 minutes of PK time, Marner was 6th in preventing Shots against, 7th in goals against, 8th in expected goals against, 9th in Scoring Chances Against and 5th in High Danger Chances against.

Nylander, similarly, was 4th in Shots Against, 6th in goals against, 9th in expected goals against, 3rd in scoring chances against and 4th in HD chances against.

Unsurprisingly Matthews was better than both of them in all categories: 1st in shot suppression, 1st in goals against, 1st in expected goals against, 1st in scoring chances against and 3rd in HD chances against (Gregor was first).

This year the PK wasn't the differentiator for Marner that it might normally be.

The lack of attention to detail in the D-Zone isn't just on man coverage - which is where Marner beats Nylander - but it's also on clean zone exits, not turning the puck over in your own zone on your own side of centre prior to the red line, and that's where Nylander beats Marner. Both of them have their issues there and neither one really excels as much as any of us fans would like.
