Going into this summer the Leafs are committed to paying their top 5 players already under contract 61.6% of their cap total.

By comparison the teams remaining in the Stanley Cup chase pay less of their budget on their top 5 contracts (% of total cap)

Rangers 50.3%
Florida 48.8%
Dallas 50%
Edmonton 47.6%
Vancouver 44.5%

Some teams (eg Florida) have important contracts to negotiate this summer but it should not significantly change the % of budget allocated to the top 5 skaters on the team.

I am not a fan of moving Marner. But, perhaps, there is a need to align the Leafs salary structure for their top players to be closer to the numbers we see from other successful teams.

It is entirely possible that a player can have a perfectly valued contract but, the teams combination of contracts does not fit with the overall needs of the team.

I am looking at other teams that have the cap space and might be willing to take on Marner at a 12.9% cap hit. And, he will need a new contract next year. If a team trades for him he immediately becomes their top paid player and the bench mark for player agents preparing their asks on other team players.

Tavares' contract is all cap hit hit and little actual salary dollars. Contrary to what some folks are saying, I think Tavares is a good and easy fit for multiple rebuilding teams (San Jose, Chicago, Anaheim).

I had a late dinner of fried seafood last night. It was delicious. Flounder fillets and hushpuppies directly into my face hole.

Of course, those filets woke me up bright and early this morning. Nothing like the gurgle guts to get you out of bed fast.

Seriously, is Ek just such a skanky whore for traffic that he will tolerate anything short of child porn before moderating posts and banning users?

I mean, look at the comment threads to his posts on the main page. They always have the worst comments and none of them ever get deleted. Blatantly off-topic trolling from the same repeat offenders who are proud of what they do to disrupt the discussions - not that there is any discussion to disrupt in those posts because any rational discourse gets killed in the crib by the high noise to signal ratio.

The rest of the boards on this site are an embarassment. Ek should feel shame for letting this cluster(frank) bear his name and represent his hockey passion. I would feel embarassed if I was him.

And, if you are too low-tech to handle business on your own website, get some remote admins to carry the load. Give them the ban hammer and the authority to use it. For (frank)s sake. It's not hard. Eventually the trolls will tire of getting new alts banned and give up or start posting rationally to evade detection - which is the ultimate goal.

Mobile Brave browser or de-Googled Chromium (or Firefox) with an ad-blocker works wonders.

Brave is great if you disable all the crypto-related horsepoop - fast and never any ads. They have the best baked-in ad blocker out there. Just works right out of the box. It even kills most YouTube ads.

Agree about this site on mobile. I forgot and opened it in vanilla Chrome one day and the amount of ads and pop-ups was nuts. Ek obviously doesn't care how this site looks or is perceived by the visitors.

Thanks for the tips, hadn't heard of Brave. I used to use Firefox but Google had mostly succeeded in getting me in their ecosystem. Literally only this site is the reason I'll go back to an alternative.

It does really look like some trash spam site now, EK doesn't give a fraaaank.

I forget why, but I had to stop using ad blocker. Something wasn’t working.
