Maximum Domi
- AdamFrench

I liked Domi this season. He took a while to settle in, but once he got rolling I think he did his daddy proud. Resign him and make him a long-term addition to the Blue and White (assuming his demands aren't nuts).

Idk man..

Maybe tho.

I think we sensationalize events from the past like somehow people were tougher, and could handle more abuse.

I think the only thing that’s changed, is that we’ve become less tolerant of abusive behaviour. Call it “woke” or whatever, I call it progress.

It’s a horrible thing that happened to a lot of NHL fighters from the 90’s early 2000’s.

I agree 100%. It's (frank)ing sad how Probert ended up. The league was a different place back then. Those guys must have had one concussion after another after another. The headaches, the confusion, the memory issues, cognition issues, and all of the effects that weren't well understood back then. Between the drugs, alcohol, and concussions, guys like Berube and Probert are lucky their brains weren't completely scrambled. It's a testament to the sturdiness of Berube's braincase that he's not drooling in a diaper right now.

I don't like the idea of losing Marner either.

Ultimately it comes to what they want to do - I mean it's a stupidly simplistic statement - but let's assume that Marner was both amenable to signing a long-term deal or being moved.

In 2024-25 if you trade Marner and then lose JT at the end of that season, going into 2025-26 you get the space you wanted from losing JT, but you've lost one of the most dynamic playmakers in the game. Does that $22m over two years allow them to rebuild this team with decent offensive characteristics but better defensive characteristics?

I would think it does, despite the fact that Marner is an elite playmaker and a net positive on the ice in most areas.

I don't want to lose either of Marner or Nylander but even if we could trade Tavares with no retention, I simply don't know if having 3 of the highest paid players in the top-12 paid in the league is a winning recipe, let alone all 4 of those players that we have now.

If Berube has input then perhaps he has to decide what he wants. If I'm a coach, I probably like Marner's versatility, but don't like his persistent perimeter play nor his overcreativity leading to D-Zone and neutral zone turnovers. Comparatively, I probably don't like that Nylander seems to do what he wants to do and some games won't get off the perimeter and some games drives the net like prime Lemieux. He doesn't as much versatility, but he's not a liability.

It's why the argument can spin and spin and spin. Individually they both have very distinct flaws in their games and both provide exceptional value with their play. If someone goes out of those two it's a pick-your-poison. That said, word is that they are shopping Marner to see what his value on the market is - no different than they did with Nylander last year. If they like what they hear, I guess we'll know.

Marner is the most loved Leaf in the organization. Insanely good player, excellent person, all around gem.

Look at who wants him gone. It’s all the flakes. These people never once made a sound point in their entire lives. They had their swords drawn 3 years ago, and tried to convince everyone that he was bad in last years playoffs, when he was clearly their best forward.

This is what they do. They establish a false narrative and beat it to death even after they’ve been repeatedly proven wrong.

Marner will have no issues under Berube. He’s going nowhere. He’s a 100+ pts winger (if he plays 82 games) who gets Selke considerations. I look at some of these trade proposals and all I can do is laugh. Because the same guys that massive undervalue Mitch, overvalue the players who would be coming back.

They should really cheer for a different team if they’re going to continue to try to bully our best player out of town.

Marner has to go. Good riddance!! Constantly folds in game 5,6,7 scenarios. You want to demand top money in the league then you need to carry your own line and be a difference maker. Leafs have 4 guys paid to be difference makers, news flash, they aren’t making a difference.

I liked Domi especially with Matthews. But not sure I’d give him too long a contract and it wouldn’t be NTC. Maybe 2x3 or 2x3.5. He’s too hot and cold for long term and he takes some bad penalties.

I read Proberts book, fascinating. He is one of the few fighters that could actually play hockey. The drugs and alcohol really hurt him. In his book he talks about all the guys he fought, except Wendel.

Most of the heavyweights of those days wouldn’t have been in the league if it wasn’t for fighting, they would have been flipping burgers somewhere.
