Yea and no, uncle Dale screwed the whole thing up with his RFA snafu. So maybe they got away with it on one end but they paid for it with the dismantling of 2010 team.
The Blackhawks did kind of wander in the dark when they built that team. How many bad contracts did uncle Dale give out as well.
This may go sideways, but I've still never seen any team this aggressive in a rebuild, looks like a couple of other teams like the Blackhawks approach, Philly, Calgary, Montreal realizing maybe it's better to have more 1st round picks instead of 7th round picks, SJ, Utah. Oh and Buffalo to
If this works for the Blackhawks and these other teams you'll see many teams doing this in the future.
In 4 to 5 years these will probably be the better playoff teams. - BetweenTheDots
Thats what happens when most of your talent all matures at the same time - which is probably going to bite Kyle in the ass. Some of these seconds and firsts - this year and the next should be moved for proven assets OR for picks in 26 or 27. |

Preds freeing up cap space for Marner? If he waives. Saros to Toronto? - boilermaker100
Good call Boiler. This makes sense. I would think Berube would want to evaluate his team first before big trades are made but given the circumstances, maybe Treiveling is taking drastic action. |

I think it was their fault as much as Dale's.
What I didn't understand at the time was if Dale screwed up,why replace him with his assistant who is also included in the screw up? Then I realized, they wanted a YES man. The way the falcons didn't want Belichick because he would have told them to go eat sh!t if they were thinking of drafting Penix. McCub wanted the same thing and got his guy. A lot of these b.s. "team presidents" or whatever you wanna call them have huge egos, and being told by a coach or gm to get bent doesn't sit well with them
Remember Bowman sending Barry to help the PP during a practice? Q told him to take a hike. Pretty sure Bowman wasn't happy about that, but Q didn't give a you know what. And little "Scotty" got his wish and hired a yes man in Colitton, who absolutely sucked. These idiots and their egos,it is nuts!
The Bowman/Colitton crap was just as bad as the Bulls Krause/Floyd pairing. His fishing buddy is going to be the next big head coach of an nba champion, sure thing buddy. The best thing is it always ends the same, and there are countless examples for these morons to look at and say: I better not do that!
But they go ahead and do it anyway.
Love me some Q! Hope he is back in the nhl one day - captainserious
It's the reality of 7-10 guys all needing paper at the same time and performing at a high level. |

Assume the following players/prospects stick around and develop.
Bedard, Korchinski, Nazar will need new contracts two years from now, summer of 2026. Delmastro and Allan too though they will command lesser bucks.
Hayes, Ludwinski, Savoie, Commesso will need new contracts the following year, summer of 2027. If Hayes turns into Wyatt Johnson that could be an expensive 2nd contract.
Let's give Moore and Rinzel one more year in college. Dedimov/Levshunov another season in Russia/college. Three more ELC's that will expire summer of 2028. If the pick is Dedimov, and he plays as predicted, he's a 10M man.
Meanwhile unless Seth Jones is traded, he's still costing 9.5M. Will Reichel and Kurashev still be here and what will they be making if they fully develop?
This is not counting some solid veterans signed in the ensuing 3 or 4 years to round out the team.
Hawks could be in cap hell before you know it and before they've won anything. |

Anyone else here think he might not be the king's sh!t? That the hype might have been a bit overblown?
Sometimes I think he just might be closer to Kane or a Nugent Hopkins type producer and not some 100pt per season killer like Kucherov,MacKinnon,Matthews etc.. Not that there is anything wrong with being another Patrick Kane, but that would be a weird let down.
Just saw he got a little more than 8min of ice time.

In this case it doesn't matter if still happened. So you don't hold the guy in charge accountable but the people who work under him, interesting, that's an entirely different debate. - BetweenTheDots
More like why would Stan get the job if he was the cause of the FU and clearly by definition of being the AGM he played a part. It looked like a conspiracy then and it still does.

I think there is a general belief in the hockey world that Bedard's potential is a rung or two above Patrick Kane.
He got off to a good start, about a year younger than Kane and he put up similar production, while mostly playing a more difficult position as Center. I think all things considered, Kane didn't have to worry as much about teams trying to double team cover him, because the rest of his line was also dangerous and talented. Bedard still has a long way to go and a lot of hockey to play, but he has the potential to eclipse Kane's production. - breadbag

Stan got the job because of Scottie. I heard a rumor that San Jose was looking at Colliton for coach.
Edit: That came from the Hockey news. Give Bedard a break. He has been playing a lot of hockey. |

Well if the Hawks are in cap hell after 4 years I'd say KD is batting way way way above the average of hits in the draft.
All in 4 years, i hear that's not possible on this board. Considering teams are willing to give up multiple firsts or good prospects for an up and coming player id say the Blackhawks will actually be in better shape than a lot of teams. This is the layer affect. |

Well technically according to your logic they should move some of the picks they already made because future draft picks ELCs don't kick in until one they are signed, 2 they have to play in the NHL.
Honestly FFS let's stop with the immediate gratification and let this develop.
That's all i hear from many of you. |

Dump #98 while the Hawks can still get some value.
Trade Bedard, #2, #20 to SJ for #14, #33 and Eklund.

We all want the same thing. I’m like you I think KD has to continue methodically, continuing collecting talent and getting ready when it becomes frenetic and things start happening quickly. Right now isn’t the time to trade draft picks or prospects for a guy who probably won’t be around when the Hawks are competitive. However if a good 21 - 23 year old were available for the later first and a second I wouldn’t be upset to see it happen. In the meantime show incremental improvement without upsetting the long term plan. |

He got 8 mins of ice time because it was a game they wanted to win against a tough opponent - the host Czechs. Add to that he has no clue how to play without the puck.
Whats happening is a young kid who still belongs at a junior level is getting schooled by players who play a man's game. Love the kid's enthusiasm and dedication but not ready to participate with the best players in the game. But in Chicago he sells tickets and jerseys - the team and the NHL consider that very important. |

Succesful rebuids should only take 1 season under the proper management and coaching staff.
And then there are teams that take longer to put the pieces in place - like the Maple Leafs who chose a 57 year rebuild model.

He’s had five firsts and five seconds in the last two years. If he is “average”in picking players, he’ll run into cap issues. |

Exactly, I hope in 4 years the Hawks have cap issues. More fun watching a team that has talented players than watching overpaid players to get to the cap floor. |

I expect KD will target a young forward this off-season, likely and RFA that doesn’t fit with his team.
Necas (CAR), N Robertson (TOR), Sillinger (CBJ) come to mind. The cost won’t be cheap, but it’s what has to be paid. |

A friend gave us a bottle of Chiara Boschis 2019 Barolo Mosconi he brought back from Italy. It’s been in our wine rack waiting for that special day. My wife is a Hab fan, we decided to open it when one of our teams lifts the cup. It’ll taste a little better if the Hawks do, but I’m looking forward to it nonetheless. |

Over time sure, but in 4 years he's done fantastic if he's in cap hell.
Bedard will get paid 3 seasons from now
Cost certainty with Vlasic
Seth Jones over pay
But you only have $14 mil tied up in your top pair, that's not bad
Korchinski 3 seasons from now Nazar 3 seasons from now
But Foligno, D!ckinson, Murphy come off the books
Hall and AA off the books next year
That's$30 million if you include Mrazek the buyout and McCabe.
So they have the money and not even feel it if their current prospects start playing like studs
I believe Ludwinski, Hayes, Lardis, Savoie are going to be marinating in the minors for a while
Even if the college kids in Minnesota sign next year which i doubt Rinzel will, even if KD foregos the 3 year deal they would become RFAs the year after Bedard and Co.
I just don't see them being in cap hell until at least year 6 or 7 from 2022.
And on top of all that the player they draft 2nd overall and doesn't play in the NHL next year only helps their salary cap situation in the future. |
