Regardless they will watch EP closely for the first few years of his deal.
He looked to be coming around that last few games and I think he can get his PO scoring down.
Just needs to work on his core strength as does Hughes. They were dummied around out there a bit and only thing that saved Hughes' ass is his amazing skating.
Nashville took alot out of Hughes IMO. - LordHumungous
All true & adding Hronek wasn’t a big help for Hughes. |

This is a good point.
I think Canucks have to take a look and see what style of play they want to go with this summer. Having four shots halfway through the game was an embarrassment. TBH I only watched about 10 minutes last night because it was easy to see it was not going to end well.
This team is not built for tough close checking low scoring games. They can play tough sometimes ( half the team), but if they are not getting a lot of scoring chances
they are a .500 team not a .650 team.
They need to determine their style and then determine who they want to play that way. - VANTEL
Some fair points here.
As mentioned before this club is still a little too soft for a deep PO run.
Folks compare Hughes to Makar and while Hughes had a better reg. season and will most likely take the Norris Makar can just score in the PO's. Core strength. Not sure Hughes will ever get to Makar levels in the POs but would sure hope for more next years PO.
I think we have a perrenial PO contender now but PO's are just a different season.
If Tocchet has a few more 'correct' ingredients for next year results could be very different maybe the WCF. |

Thank you NYN for helping to make this season one of the most exciting in a long long time. Your articles have been spot on and very enjoyable to read and I hope you'll continue providing your insights.
I hope the team grows from this experience and becomes a perennial playoff team. For me the biggest question going forward is Zadorov, I really hope we can sign him.

I am not sure we are a playoff team next year. Too many UFAs to know how the team will look next year.

It was the first half season but the Hockey is so much softer then before the big PO pushes of the last half. They got away from what was making them successful on the scoresheet mainly it boils down to just shooting the damn puck more often when you have the lanes.
Hronek and Hughes were fine just need to play their game. |

I think we'll be ok making the PO's but not a top 5 finish IMO. We have the necessary core pieces now just need to round it all out.
I'd be more concerned on Demko's injuries and replacing Myers with a cheaper better option. |

Too many questions about the roster right now to say where we finish. I mean if they bring in Raty to replace Lindholm and Pod is playing second line then ooof.
We will get a better picture once we see a set roster. It will probably be okay but it does depend on what PA does with his spending money.

On Myers it comes down to what he’d sign for or then on to who this cheaper RHD would be. Got a name? |

Friedman on #Canucks free agent targets : They will talk to Lindholm agent and ask what will it take, is it possible, maybe not but they will try,
They know the price on Zadorov.
With the Canucks expected the unexpected. |

Quite accurate for Tochett to mention that "they've finally got the respect of this town"...meaning, not even your own city respects you! While I actually do agree with Tochett though, the team has grown in this area, there is still a huge mountain to climb in terms of the rest of the world/league respecting the Canucks.
They play another team's intro song
They copied the crowd singing O'Canada
They copied the Bruins' "woooooo" after a goal
They copied the "get an ex player or celeb to turn the siren"
...but worst of all, they STILL pump fake crowd noises into the building to manufacture a raucous crowd! (quite pathetic considering I don't even think they need it, the crowd seems just fine to me).
And there is definitely NOT a rivalry between Van and CGY or Van and EDM. The rivialry is EDM vs CGY. Van has never competed with anyone. Maybe go ask the Climate Change Krayken for a date. |

Zadarov was right "All Edmonton has is hockey"
I had seen some pictures of Rogers on the weekend and people in Edmonton are still wearing winter coats. It is almost June for Christ sakes.

I was playing around on CF and thought instead of overpaying look at other alternatives.
Instead of bringing back Hronek in the high sevens trade his ass to MTL: Xhekaj and Mailloux Winnipegs first for Hronek and Hoglander. Two young D ready to play in the NHL. Much cheaper.
Zadarov will need also to be an overpay so another option is Brendan Dillon for two years at a much cheaper rate.
Instead of overpaying for Joshua , Boston are looking to move Debrusk who is a true top six guy who checks more boxes. He will be more expensive but fits the cap.
For the right guy like Evan Bouchard I would consider moving Demko. Short term woes, long term gains.
As I always say you don't have to agree with the names but the process of finding replacements is what matters.
I think if the team is keeping Petey he needs to play top line. Crazy having a player paid that much playing second line. Bring Lindholm back and Debrusk and Garland riding shotgun. |
